Stop waiting for the axe to cut your head

The management is chanting "AI" in every meeting, even the office plants know the next layoff is coming soon. Stop waiting for the axe to cut your head. If you’re eyeing the exit, get your interview script ready. If you’re worried about the bank account, find a side hustle. If you’re the sharpest technical mind in the room, stop fixing your manager's broken Excel formuls, let them figure out how to "AI" their way out of a circular reference. If you possess knowledge within your team that others do not, stop sharing it; Your kindness is pushing your own head into a noose.

@b9+1kr2g8fby is 100% right.

Employers Quietly Repost Jobs After Layoffs

Many workers report being laid off, only to see similar roles reposted later. Employment attorney Chiquita Hall-Jackson calls this a "quiet repost" and sees it often. This practice can create significant legal exposure for employers, potentially leading to lawsuits. Workers should examine layoff demographics and document all workplace communications. Understanding legal rights during layoffs is crucial as job security evolves.

What happened to all the layoff news in IT?

because of transition to Cognizant. I am from Costa Rica as a CS rep and my manager mentioned today that there will be no lay offs in the coming future? Majority of my counter parts in MN are doing zero work and most of the projects are put on hold. Hope someone in the top management has a clue of whats going on. Its very bad to put all the employees in this unknown state.

charter should be sued in a class action over this...

you can’t keep bringing in h1b workers and h1/l1 contractors, then turn around and lay off u.s. citizens and permanent residents in the same job profiles like nobody is going to notice.

maybe there is some legal explanation buried in the paperwork. maybe.

but from the outside, it looks pretty simple: replace domestic workers with visa-dependent labor, call it “restructuring,” and hope everyone is too tired or too scared to push back.

someone should be looking at this closely. not with another internal review. with subpoenas.

Internal positions i interviewed for no longer available

So, I was told two of my positions i interviewed for are no longer available. Just FYI, any one who was interviewing for a position prior to the restructuring will most likely get an email saying: due to business needs, this position is no longer available

Good advice

Best advice I got when I was laid off a few years ago was to treat job hunting like a full time job. Job hunt and interview for the full work day, but constrain it to work hours. Take breaks, meet people for lunch, and most importantly sign off at a reasonable time. Enjoy your evening best you can.

Bumping this from @b0+1kr24ryf6, more people should read it.

Waiting for potential severance or retirement

Is there any advantage to informing HR about retirement plans ahead of time? With the possibility of layoffs and severance packages at Bank, I’m unsure whether I should let HR know that I’m planning to retire in July. I would also be eligible for a half-year bonus since I have 10+ years. Could notifying HR about my retirement plans affect my chances of being included in a layoff or receiving severance?
