I've been furiously dusting off my resume

Working every contact, and applying for anything where my skills might fit. I'm becoming desperate. One single interview, and it didn't work out. It's as bad out there as everyone says. Watching Open Text's nosedive is freaking me out. We knew things were bad, and layoffs became the norm, but this feels like the death throes.

Job change BGCO

I know this is not layoff related, so feel free to ignore it, but my current role and environmental in the BGCO feels toxic. I want to look at other BGCO roles and was thinking about the advanced solutions team. Does anyone have any insight into that team or know if they are considered a part of Dans future plan? Are they likely to have less layoff impacts because of what they do? Is the environment a good one?

Well, I’ve been preparing for a while now

I never expected all these recent decisions and developments to lead anywhere good. I’ve finally landed an interview for a decent job. It’s not much of a pay raise, but it looks far more stable. I hope it works out, because staying here just waiting for things to get worse until the axe falls is a disservice to yourself. I’d recommend putting your own interests first. Maybe the rumors about immediate massive layoffs aren’t true, but they are coming. Oracle has become a hot mess, and we’re the ones who’ll end up holding the short end of the stick.

The job search is a nightmare right now

Start looking for your next role today, but do not quit. The market is absolutely awful, worse than it looks from the inside. I was laid off and with twenty years in the field, it still took me forever to land something new. Being unemployed puts you at a huge disadvantage from the start. Keep your current seat warm until you've secured another one.

What’s the best way to ask for a raise during challenging times?

Every time I bring up the topic of a raise with my boss, it gets dismissed. Meanwhile, the cost of living continues to INFLATE, and I’m struggling to make ends meet at home. I’ve been actively searching for other jobs. Applying to jobs every single day but all I’ve received so far are rejections.

Listen finally

Maybe all the downvoting and “you’re crazy” commenting people trolling us will listen. This is easily the 8th time this site has accurately reported when layoffs would occur. It’s not to panic people. It’s to help us prepare. Prepare for transitioning, finances, prepare resumes, start looking at job market. While some may already be doing that, many have a wild fear of change and don’t.

Please let this be your wake up call. You need to be plugged in to your network, expanding it, strengthening it. You need to be touching your resume every couple weeks.

Unemployment Su-ks

I’ve been unemployed for 11 months, and watching people I know announce new jobs or promotions makes me feel smaller every time... I want to feel happy for them, but instead I’m left with envy, frustration, and a quiet sadness that doesn’t really go away.

I’m in my mid-30s with no job, no partner, no kids, and it makes me feel stuck, behind... honestly undesirable. The job market is broken. I’ve done the applications... the final-round interviews, the books, the videos, the advice threads --- and none of it has paid off. i’ve come close more times than I can count... and only to see someone else eventually land the role. I can’t ignore the thought that not being white may be part of it.

If you were stuck here this long and still made it out, what actually helped?

I haven’t given up but i am sooo tired

Current employees, are you planning to stay?

Just curious for those that work here, are you planning to stay and try to ride out the current turmoil? Or actively looking whats out there. Obviously the market is brutal right now that makes switching harder, but I still see a lot of new job posts on LinkedIn, so theres gotta be some companies hiring.

Pack your bags

You’ ve been monitored every minute in office and every key stroke that you type. Writing is on the wall. Not your fault. This is simple math - the company has more than what it can chew. Layoffs will continue through out 2026. Doesnt matter what rating you got. Exceeds rating and promotions mean cr-p as it is relative. Time to upskill and time to work on your resume. Start looking around for a job. Dont wait to be layed off - your severance will not be big anymore - trust me its an exec here. Get out as a hero at your will once you find an opportunity elsewhere.

"How We Work" letters - what's the timeline after a decline to move?

If I decline to move, any ideas on what the timeline looks like to get the official layoff notice? I hear that puts me on "the list" but I'm more curious what that means for timeline / budget purposes. I want to find a new job, but I want to do it in the right order.

Thanks!

Is there a point in trying to get a job at Amazon anymore?

I've always wanted to work at Amazon and I've been applying for a while, but with all the cuts, I'm starting to think there's no point in it anymore. I don't want to leave a somewhat safe position to start a new job even if it is my dream job just to be laid off within months.

Is it me or them?

I have been at T for more than dog years and as I venture into job market, I am seeing hiring managers not having a clue who they want, yet interview me and send instant rejections after the first rounds. I am unsure if these are H1B postings, my tenure at T negatively affecting or my credentials. I am a bit flabbergasted on what to improve on if I can’t even make the first round. How did you overcome this?

Reality Check

As a former U.S. Bank employee with close to 30 years of experience and experienced unemployment.

Recognize

  • You are owed nothing other than your last paycheck.
  • Benefits are better than most other places.
  • Your colleagues are friendly with you but are not your friends.
  • Anyone including you can easily be replaced.
  • The job market is tough even with high demand skills.
  • Leadership acts on behalf of the shareholders. You should too.
  • Age discrimination is real.
  • RTO is not about you.
  • Business has nothing to do with morality.

You should:

  • Appreciate your paycheck
  • Not complain…not to anyone.
  • Learn and leverage AI.
  • Use all available resources at U.S. bank and anywhere else to improve.
  • Work hard and do your best while you’re employed.
  • Side hustle or develop passive income streams.
  • Stop being entitled.
  • Not share your personal baggage or health issues.
  • Not compare yourself to anyone.
  • Know your worth and find a place that recognizes it.

I am not posting to say what is right or wrong l. All I can say is that it is better to su-k it up and collect a paycheck than having your pride on the unemployment line.

What am I going to do?!

I've lost my voice from p!$$!ng and moaning about losing my job. My fingers are raw and cramped from posting here and on other forums. My extended family won't have anything to do with me. My wife is threatening to leave me! I haven't been able to find another job. What do I do????

mental health - need help

I dont know what is wrong with me. I feel like I will go crazy because of anxiety. I dont have family and I can only rely on myself. I am so worried I wont be able to find another job. And staying home all day is driving me crazy. I dont know what to do. I apply everyday but no interview so far.
