Survivor guilt

I made it through this awful week, and I am so sorry for those who were impacted. They did not deserve this. The process seemed utterly random. I would gladly switch positions with any of those laid off since I was planning to retire in the next year on my own. I cannot be the only one in this situation, but there was no way to self nominate. I call out the pathetically poor execution of this layoff process. Shame on any of you in leadership who let this happen. May you never enjoy another sound night of sleep!

What do I do?

So my dept was job completed/lay off while I was on vacation. I RTO to my office which I’m by myself and remote from everyone else. My boss and 2 other remote coworkers who I only conversed with over email were let go. I never got notified and nothing in company mail. I came back from work and worked like normal and learned over the next several days what happened. I didn’t reach out. All my logins work, I get automatic generated tickets to review then send off. Everything is still working and I can continue and have been continued to do my duties. I’ve done this already for the past several weeks and even got paid.

Should I reach out my 3rd line or just lay low and keep working? In webphone I am also NOW listed under my 3rd line when before I was under my manager and my coworkers.

Goodbye - layoff.com

I survived… but not sure how Vz can ever feel like “family” after so many face so much uncertainty right before the holidays.

Unfortunately, we will meet again layoff.com, when the next round comes.

This site had many trolls but it also provided more information that leadership cared to share with us.

Layoffs end of March Early April

VTeamers do not get too comfortable if your job is saved this time around… round 2 is coming sooner than you can think of, End of March to early April i am hearing from a realiable source details are being ironed out. The frontier merger should be finalized before Feb 16th and at that point frontier has 20k employees and they are all not cutting cut, i heard verizon can only cut a maximum 50% of their employees to avoid legal ramifications, that means we will have an additional 10k employee cut again in late spring! If you Don’t believe me ask your direct manager if there is a second round coming soon that was something discussed with them once they had already gave the notice to employees who would be impacted, they had a second meeting with their leaders to debrief. You can also go back and check their calenders yesterday you can clearly see their calenders match at a certain point….

More to Come, that was phase 1

First and foremost- to all our brothers and sisters in arms who were in the trenches with us that found out they don’t work at Verizon anymore yesterday, I’m sorry. A lot of good people were cut. The timing couldn’t be worse

But for all of us left- winter is coming.
That was the first phase of a long term plan to lean down. They cut the bare minimum to still have performance for the holiday rush. Once the New Years comes and goes there are confirmed more planned cuts for Q1 and Q2. and rumor is the packages won’t be as nice as the ones our fellow fallen soldiers got yesterday.

Update your resumes. Take skill up trainings and network. This isn’t close to the end .

More Tyson Lay-offs 11/17/25

We lost more than 20 in West Michigan on Monday. Some with over 30 years experience in their positions. And, these weren’t positions with surplus people. We are all overwhelmed with normal day to day work loads, and it just got worse because of these layoffs! I say no bonuses for leadership as long as there are job eliminations or layoffs!

The change Verizon really needs is a new board of directors!

Terrible decisions from Lowell started this spiral, then they bring in Hans who made very poor decisions with Ericsson and big shocker history repeated itself at Verizon. I literally remember the day he was named as CEO, fellow co workers talking about his track record at scratching their heads on why he was named....and the kicker....the new CEO was on the board of directors when they picked Hans. So all the cr-ppy decisions he made can all tie back to the board and their awful decision to bring him on. So now a member of that cr-ppy board of directors is now the CEO and employees and investors are supposed to have some kind of hope in that? I cant believe what this once wonderful company has turned into. All these frontline workers who bust their butts and care about the customers are just tossed to the curb...DURING THE HOLIDAYS. Very heartless. Just think about it...axing 13k individuals in hopes that that news would drive up stock price by a few pennies. Very very sick game they are playing. I left back in 2023 and couldnt be happier. It was so scary and stressful when it happened to me and my heart goes out to those effected. Its so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel and I know the job market now is much worse than it was in 2023. I genuinely hope you all land on your feet...and soon.

Reminder to those that need one!!

For all those that need a reminder, while FB and his merry band of c-suite minions were making money off your backs and fluffing investors , they were demanding you badge swipe 5 days a week or lose your job, do 9 hrs not 8:58 or lose your job, work excessive overtime or lose your job, make sure you are on your computer for 8 hrs or lose your job, move or lose your job, get a jab or lose your job, cut bonuses two years in a row while collecting their fat bonuses, slapped each other on the back for doing so well in Argentina while the people suffered with sky high inflation, do the job of 3 people or lose your job. They use you while they collect millions for doing a horrible job. We were running a company!! No you weren’t it was a smoke and mirrors so they could get richer. The BOD is complicit as well. Useless group. Got it!! Stop caring and live free.

Poor Execution

Good luck, Dan, trying to dazzle customers and grow the customer base—you can’t even take care of your internal customers! I still can’t access the severance portal, even after HR intervention. At this point, it’s laughable. Once again, Verizon fails to execute anything correctly.

Are they selling of Vz International?

So Dan laid off 13,000 people yesterday, 2,000 short of the 15K total we've all been hearing about for the last few weeks.

I'm hearing rumors from several sources that they plan to sell off Vz International (to BT) in April next year. Will the remaining 2,000 heads be from there do we think?

PetroTech Salvage

Anyone notice (and maybe you’re one) PetroTechs are being parked in functions across the organization not related to their discipline (IT, Finance, Supply Chain). Park until needed? Waiting for an upturn in activity? I can’t imagine they are very happy with these assignments other than getting paid.

Verizon is not done

Just because you were just let go, or know of others being let go, doesn’t mean the laid off 13,000 in a single day.

They got the higher paid, and the lowest performers off the books before the new year.

More waves are coming. ETA 12/20 and 1/20.

If I’m wrong, I’m wrong, however, I’m still quitting after I take advantage of my Fmla benefits next year. Good luck everyone.

Scott Kirby (United CEO) is right. Customer experience improvements are just “table stakes”

A good read that relates to us right now

https://onemileatatime.com/news/united-ceo-scott-kirby-confidently-declares-american-cooked/

Replace with Verizon and we can all relate

"The current narrative among [Verizon]American executives is that everything they’re doing right now is to “focus on the customer.” The problem is, that’s not enough. [Verizon] American’s Chief Customer Officer has said that a reliable schedule is just “table stakes” at this point.

But the reality is that even customer experience improvements are just “table stakes,” when you’re competing against [T-Mobile]Delta and [Verizon]United. What else ya got? There needs to be a bigger strategy, and employees need to be excited about it.

The problem with [Dan] Isom at [Verizon]American is that he’s neither some brilliant strategy guy, nor is he a football coach type, like McCartney references. McCartney is exactly right — “once you lose labor, it’s over,” and “it may take a couple of years or whatever, but it’s over.” [Dan] Isom isn’t a football coach, he’s the captain of a lost ship with no navigation that’s just going deeper into the ocean. And maybe that sounds harsh, but c’mon, [Verizon]American lost money in Q3 2025, which is supposed to be one of the better quarters.

It's been a been a bumpy last 20 years here. I will miss many of you! Wish us luck in the job hunt!

Lets find employment where the EMPLOYEES are VALUED FIRST!!

Here come the Bobs

So I had cause to re-watch Office Space over the weekend. The studio released this movie in 1999. It focuses on the corporate absurdities that permeated cubicle life in the late 1990s, with the lead-up to Y2K as a backdrop.

I’ve seen the movie countless times and still find the story of the Bobs—two consultants hired to reduce headcount—hysterical, although the last seven years of hired consultants and annual layoffs is a bit too much art imitating life.

What struck me this time was a throwaway line I hadn’t noticed before. The main characters work for a company named Initech—which, they explain, is a made-up word created by smashing innovation and technology together. Sound familiar?

So the “innovative” naming that made us all Solvers became part of cinematic history over 25 years ago. Make no mistake, folks: these leaders of ours are not bringing anything new. We talk about AI and the positions it will eliminate, but with this crew of senior leaders, we could replace them with a Magic 8-Ball that simply says, “Hire consultants and restructure.” That seems to be their cure for anything that ails us.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

12/19 Exits - Don't Forget to Revoke Elec Dist of Tax Forms

Developing a checklist of what to do pretty quick. Remember if you have Electronic Distribution set for W2 and 1095-C, you need to go to payroll site and select TAX FORMS and then opt (radio button at bottom of page) to Revoke Electronic Distribution of EACH Form.

Happy exiting. I am still sick and mad at my riff but trying to adjust.

We didn't make the cut.

My whole office is being taken over by Indirect and our positions are being eliminated. The agent was in our store recruiting within the first hour of opening the doors. The effective date is 1/1.

I don't know how it will feel to work the holidays knowing it all ends 12/31. I will take care of people that come in the way I would help a friend, but the numbers, the quotas, the lead calls... none of it matters. I am surprised a bit that we would be kept on board through the eoy, but I supposed they would rather have people clerking in the store for revenue, vs. dealing with a store that can't operate?

Prayers for the rest of your out there 🙏

No Individual Performance Impact on Bonuses

With the new performance framework being introduced they’re removing any incentive for high performers to go above and beyond, as their peers who perform below average will receive the same bonuses.

Meanwhile they keep repeating ad nauseam that our ambition is to be the #1 sports brand in the world.

It’s clear they want more people to leave.

One Week before Black Friday, and it’s this bad?

For stores to look they way they do this close to Black Friday is deeply concerning. Everything is being run by text messages, I haven’t seen an actual Belk executive in months. I am under the assumption that the RVP and GVP are stretched so thin, they can’t visit all the stores. Freight is pilling up, call outs are through the roof, payroll is less than previous years, workload planning is a joke.

I got laid off

Got an email earlier today saying I got laid off. I’ve been here for 4 years. 4 years loyal to this company and they just fire me like that? It feels like there is no reason for them to let me go aside from cutting cost. I’ve sacrificed so much for this company and they decided to say my work is worthless.

(Repost - the original got nixed, probably because the rest of the post contained foul language)

Public sentiment about the layoffs: they think what’s happening at Verizon is disgusting

Read the comments. So many posts about how it’s heartless to do a mass layoff right before the holidays … and how this isn’t the right strategy
