Verizon to cut 15,000 jobs as new CEO restructures company

Verizonplans to convert 180 of its company-owned stores to franchises as part of its downsizing efforts. This move is included in a larger strategy that involves cutting approximately 15,000 jobs, representing about 15% of its workforce.

Personally just don’t think I can do another year at this company

News just reported Verizon upped it to 20,000 jobs loss, I’ve also heard internally 30k.

I have a question, is engineering sc--wed(SWE)? At one of the main locations, recently got promoted, and am a bit worried. In early career, hired as a college grad.

Is this really the second/third email in three months about core locations? Are they actually moving forward this time? It kind of feels like anyone not in a core location might eventually be at risk. Am I reading that wrong?

I hate what this is doing to me. I am here looking at my coworkers and praying its one of them and not me. I don't want anyone to lose their job, but of course I prefer that I don't lose mine. So here I am looking at my VZ "family" and hoping its them. This su-ks.

This new rating system of forcing 20% below meet is this new?.

Pretty sure I’m getting the can. I’d like to port my number away from Verizon while I blow my severance money traveling the world. What carrier or mvno should I port to that would be cheap to travel with while being able to keep my number so I don’t miss any recruiter calls?

Looks like all of the competition are also going through major layoffs or restructuring. One of the companies I was looking at (Verizon) to move to just announced a 15,000 person cut.

Wow just heard on radio not only 15,000 by next week ,but that Dan said more to come and layoffs and cost cutting will be a way of life at Verizon along with most corporate wireless stores will not exist anymore only 3rd party dealers

Has anyone taken an employment reference letter from Oracle after being laid off (for next employer)? If so, does it mention any reason for termination (eg laid off)?

I find it discriminatory that Germany and France had no layoffs in 2025 while all other locations had to layoff people.

It's not against our German and French colleagues but I think we deserve an explanation from SAP on the reason behind this decision.

Been a faithful team member for 22 years and married to a corporate employee for 20 years. 800 to 1,000 ETLs will be layed off in February. The attrition will be focused in the GM areas, and the Senior Food and Beverage ETL role will be eliminated later in the spring of 2026. Tough times ahead, but these moves should help us stay competitive. Just praying my job isn't eliminated.

I can’t imagine more cuts would come this year, anyone think otherwise?

If some layoffs still happen, I just hope it won’t be as massive as everyone’s been expecting. I need this job. We all do. At least until things get better. Then we can decide to hate it, change it, or move on. Right now, it’s a total sh-tshow out there. My family can’t afford even one of us being jobless for more than a month or two. So, fingers crossed we’ve been wrong all along.

I was let go yesterday, was told that my contract will not be renewed. I know others who were also affected and I know some employees are being let go too. It's been though for a long time and I was afraid this will happen but now there is no more uncertainty but there is no more paycheck too. Husband is also unemployed right now and with two kids it will be hard to go through the holiday season as I am sure nobody is hiring before January. Good luck to all and I hope this madness stops with me.
