Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Every Expat job at Aramco comes with an expiration date

The fact that HR doesn't tell you that before you come doesn't make it less true. If you took the job expecting to make it to retirement, I'm sorry, but you are a fool. If you think the quantity/quality of the work you do will save you, then you are a double fool. The last big round that management did back in 2020 doomed entire areas of the company, and I'm sure the next one will be just the same if not worse. Sadly, management is clueless when it comes to knowing who does what, and good people get the boot right along with the bad. Some companies learn the easy way. Some companies learn the hard way. On the other hand, Aramco never, ever learns.

@20s I really love people who post “tough guy” comments like this without any understanding of exactly how many offers Aramco has to make to get anyone to come. For people from the West, It used to be 20 offers, 2 acceptances, and then 1 actually showed up. Now, with the lower pay, it is probably worse. I watched my entire division disintegrate because people with my skill set couldn’t be replaced. They tried locals and people from non western countries, but they didn’t work out. After I left, they literally had ONE expat trying to do work that six had done and then management had to shut it down completely. And the whole time management kept saying the same stuff as this “tough guy”. It was like watching a Dirty Harry movie, except in this Aramco version, Dirty Harry kept shooting himself in the foot after he told all the western expat employees to “make his day”.

@1ym You should leave. They aren’t holding you against your will. Stop your complaining and go home.

it su-ks here…period

the best part is leaving for any reason be it vacation, work trip, death in the family…anything

the worst part is returning as you descend into the foul grime below the clouds then walk outside the terminal to the stench and wailing goblins

it’s a sentence do your time or make a better choice any other choice is a better one if you come from civilization

True. It is a job, it can be a good one, but your foot unfortunately always has to be out of the door. Think of it as more of a contract position and make your decisions accordingly. It is not a career.
