Today’s the day

Well folks the day has come as my last day here at fidelity. To this community I want to say thanks for the entertainment and the small pockets of actual true facts warning on layoffs. To those affected by the layoff I wish you the very best and hope for a speedy bounce back to a job less toxic and more pay. To those still at fidelity I hope you guys make it through the sh-t show that has ensued.

Notified and relieved

I felt down for about five minutes. Then I started looking forward to my first good weekend in God knows how long, and then to having this forsaken place in the rearview mirror. I know I'll have a hard time finding another job, but I'm going to enjoy this newfound freedom before I start worrying about that.

Well, they cut me after 11 years

And all I can feel is relief. Witnessing the slow, steady decline from the company I joined to what it is today wasn't exactly a pleasant experience for someone who actually liked their job and wanted to be good at it. I wish everyone good luck, and may we all end up in companies where work feels worthwhile.

F the cowboy

I was laid off yesterday, May 7. I am not Frontier. 25 years with VZ... 3 moves for this company... I'm happy. I feel relieved. Good riddance. They think AI can do my job! It's not there yet. They will struggle will all these losses of good people. I will be fine. I am done... I think i will go Uber. Best day of my life ...

Good luck this week

Remember that it’s nothing personal if they let you go. Medtronic was here before you and it will be here after you, unless we merge with Home Depot to form a freak baby birthed from unchecked capitalism. The point is, the corporate machine doesn’t care about any of us. Good employees and bad employees alike get chewed up and sp-t out. You are worth more than whatever identity you have in this job.

Good luck.

Farewell, Friends

Well, the time has come. It’s the last night of the Crown Castle nightmare that has been the lives of those of us in the perimeter. I’ve lived through Covid, several RIFs, the lineup of C-suiters that have exited (one took her broom with her), the forced move and then backtrack, offices shuttered, and now a 2.5 year long divestiture process. Heck, I’m beat.

I’m under no illusions that the new company will be perfect…far from, but I’m not going to troll this page anymore. I’m sure I’ll hear about it over drinks with my old Crown friends, but I won’t be active on here anymore.

I’m proud of the work that my friends (maybe even some of you) and I accomplished, despite the mismanagement, craziness, and fear of what’s next. We still did a fantastic job with what we were given. I’m going to miss a lot of people, but I’m sure everyone will be just fine wherever they end up.

For those going to Arium, good luck on starting over with the dedicated company focus that you always deserved.

Zayoites, good luck on an established organization that has pet insurance!

For my Crown 2.0 generation, when the Colonel sends out his email tomorrow, announcing the dawning of the new Crown, hang in there. You’ve outlived how many CEOs? I’m sure many of you will outlive this one…unless he sells the company, which is entirely possible.

KSC Clinics Closing

Anyone have any info on what KSC clinics are closing for good? I know our path of growth was too aggressive, but didn’t think closing clinics was the solution. I always assumed they would just do a hiring freeze instead of laying off WellMed employees they just onboarded within the last 6 months….Good luck to anyone who gets cut today. It is tough out there.

LinkedIn Done Right

Saw someone on LinkedIn posted the best message I’ve seen. No s-b story, no anger, no how bad it’s going to be without them, etc. Instead a message on helping pick others up, laugh, smile, etc. Reflection wasn’t self promoting of all their accomplishments but instead centered around being touched personally by those who reached out.

Can’t remember their name because not a contact but the most real and human way to navigate. The self promoting, company bashing, or s-b story posts are all too common.

This is very different than another tech person post who basically said “I’m so amazing don’t even ask me to waste time writing my achievements on a resume. I’ll just tell them to you if you want to talk.”

Last Week for February Layoff People

How did we all do with the job search? I was blessed to be able to snag a job pretty quickly. To the people who are left behind: you will NEVER have less work than you do right now, but you'll probably have more eventually. Private equity isn't going to spend income on additional payroll. If you're considering leaving I say look around, it's not so bad out here. Then again it took a shove to get me out the door so who am I to preach? Good luck everyone, may the grass be greener on this side.

Finally caught the bullet, and I'm not even a little sad about it

The job was a dead end anyway. Severance is decent, I've got savings, and I can afford to give myself a well-deserved break for a few weeks before I start looking again. I'll find something eventually. No point in stressing. Good luck to everyone still there, and always keep an eye out for something better.

I'm okay with this

I’ve been here for over a decade, and I’d be lying if I said it was all bad. There were good times too, even if the bad has been more prominent in recent years. I’ll miss my coworkers, and I’m hoping we’ll still grab a drink now and then. I’m ready to move on. Good luck to everyone else, I hope life treats you well.

Grass is Def Greener on the Other Side

Last day was 2/20. Already saw my health improve with my BP and stress coming down. My kids see me more and my quality of life without that workload has been wonderful. Universe was good to remove me from that shedshow happening now. Peace out VZ. You were but only a training ground in my career journey. Only regret was I wish I left before I put more than 10 years in.

Happy Trails from an old IT Cowboy

At this stage in my life I have come to look at companies like ranches and I am just a hired cowboy to help drive their herds north to the rail head. In viewing the modern working world this way I don't get too attached to any one company in my life when working in the field of IT. Yesterday the cattle boss said in a not so surprising one on one Teams call that I was no longer needed. I got my notice and packet in my personal email later in the day. I tried logging in one last time on my company laptop this today, but my account had been disabled. So I packed up the monitors, dock, meraki, phone, laptop etc. and took it over to the UPS store. Got my UPS equipment return receipts with tracking numbers to the Bloomfield "Wild Bill" Depot. Now I ride off into the sunset to another ranch over yonder. Hopefully everyone laid off finds a prosperous new ranch and cattle boss to work for. You all worked really hard here and still have tremendous value and potential yet. Stay positive and I wish all of you Happy Trails!

Laid off while others promoted

I got the layoff call last month, last day is in May. Others on my team who are buddy-buddy with leadership got promotions at the same time. Needless to say I’m done giving this company anything more. I’m withdrawing all internal transition applications and barely going to reply to emails. For the next 2.5 months, I will swipe my card and turn around go home to apply external roles. I can’t believe how many extra hours and long nights I spent working for this company. Congrats to all promoted and good bye to all!
