Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Since 2019, we have been reclassifying CL-28 and CL-29 jobs to CL-26 and CL-27 jobs. Expect further declassifications from 2026 to 2035 to lower our global salary OPEX.

Even executive level CL-30+ jobs are being declassified to non-executive level CL-29 or lower positions.

@OP move into global trading. There are plenty of analyst and risk jobs at those CL levels who do absolutely nothing. Even better, all the “true” traders are CL 30+ but are paid at CL 25 with their “bonus” making up the difference. Even better get into GT leadership. You don’t need to know anything about trading, just jet set around the world, sit in on re-org meetings, and cash in those RSUs.

Plenty of good jobs, but change jobs and be prepared to rank against experienced CL 28/29 in your new job function. If you must be trained by a CL 25, you will drop to the bottom of CL 28/29 ranking very quickly and get PIP'd within 2 years. At minimum, you drop a quintile and never get another raise. Risky unless you are hipo. Wait till you are Retirement eligible then change while you are bullet proof. Worst case is you retire early with a broader resume. Alternately you may succeed in new job and have 8 years ion more interesting job.
