One year ago today

One year ago today I was laid off. It was a rough start as I thought i was going to be at Nike for the foreseeable future.
Since then though I started a business and just hit $500k in personal earnings. Not total sales. It’s been wild. Once I let go and just immersed myself in what I always held back from doing things just took off. I’ve made more money than I could imagine and my life is mine. My schedule. I hang out with my kids when I want. Go on trips when we want. Travel. It’s crazy how much I was holding myself back with the “stability” of a 9/5.
I miss the facilities. The people. The happy hours. I work for myself so I don’t have a team. But I couldn’t imagine my life working out like it has when I was at work.
To anyone laid off. Go after it. You’re free. To anyone still at Nike with a burning desire to do something else. Just do it!
Good luck out there.

You have a golden opportunity ahead of you.

I get that being played off can be really stressful. More so now than ever companies are showing us how little we all matter. If you’re on the finance side of Fidelity, have you ever given thought to using your skills for yourself instead of a company? I did two years ago and have been doing well since. Just some food for thought

Maryland program supports federal worker entrepreneurs

Federal layoffs impacted nearly 25,000 jobs in Maryland during 2025. The Maryland Women's Business Center launched a new program in response. Called 'Founders Rising', this 8-week program aids laid-off federal workers. It teaches participants to develop business concepts and launch new firms. Dr. Stefany Holguin successfully launched her healthcare consulting firm after completing the program.

Move on with out fear

I just quit Walgreens after 25 years because we all know what is going to happen to this company , but I just want to tell you all do not fear is ok to reinvent your self. now I have a small business of my own and I fine I have more time with my family, thing always work out don't be afraid to stand on a thin branch just trust your wings

If you’re laid off, start your own company!

I’m sorry to hear about all the layoffs people are experiencing. My advice is that because your experience is valuable, especially you folks who have been working here for 10, 20, 30 years, you should either A) Start your own company (for behavioral health, etc) or B) Do consulting on your own terms.

It’s obvious people with incredible resumes are being let go. It’s time we take our careers back and invest into something we’re truly passionate about.

Wishing you all the best!

I'm daydreaming about quitting to start my own thing

I'm so over corporate life. The thought of dealing with another reorg or layoff cycle makes me want to just walk out. I'm seriously thinking about using my skills to start a small business. It'd be crazy hard, but at least I'd be my own boss and in control of the chaos.

Attention GPs - time to break away

I'd love to see some of our GPs, the OGs that are too young to truly retire but are leaving because they can't stand PP, break off and form something new. I'm thinking like the original owner from Scottrade did. Those OG GPs are the only ones with enough capital to do this.

Associates will follow you. FAs and their clients will, too. Edward Jones is dying. It's time to build something better from its ashes as the ultimate sc--w you to PP and her sh---y ELT cronies.

We need more of this!
