Can oldtimers help me understand why oil prices refuse to budge up?
Joined 3 years ago. People tell me that prices go up and down, bo-m and bust cycles. That makes sense but it now feels that it'll never go up, almost like this is a systemic change. Not sure, it's just my gut feeling but I wanted to see if people... — read more

Layoffs Peak
U.S. employers cut nearly 950,000 jobs through September 2025, the highest number of layoffs since 2020, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Cuts could surpass 1 million this year. While still far below the 2 million layoffs in the same... — read more
Right size or Down size?
It’s disheartening to now know that leadership’s idea of the ideal org size is always smaller. It’s also disheartening to hear many people on this board say similar things - “we could use less of x or y groups.” Makes me wonder if anyone actually... — read more
If the US gets hit too, I honestly don’t know what to do
Who’s supposed to pay my bills? Has anyone noticed the cost of living skyrocketing? Housing, mortgages, it’s all out of reach. Everywhere I look, there are layoffs. I’ve been trying for almost a year to land something else, just to get ahead. I got a... — read more

Denbury folks in Plano and the field
Anyone have an educated guess on what is going to happen to all the Denbury folks in the Plano office come November when their 2 years is up? Surely they aren't going to move them all down here when we are cutting so much.
What's up with Singapore?
There was supposed to be some sort of big meeting or announcement 10:00 a.m. the other day. What is the news from that?
Blame the government along with ExxonMobil
Let’s not let the government off the hook as they are enabling ExxonMobil and others. They had no problem letting blue collar jobs off shore for cheap products that are “reduced carbon emission” which is a joke in itself. And then letting wages be... — read more

Cut the bloat in upper SC instead of actual workers
There is no reason to have so many layers of management in the US for the supply chain group and I'm sure the same applies to other groups like polaris, gbs, emtec. A prime example of bloat is the COE group in materials management full of people who... — read more

Will Exxon purchase Civitas?
Looks like one less C producer to be sold in the Permian basin. Exxon would benefit from the uplift and diversity of locations.
Not even caring enough to pause the India job posts for a few days
Care and WAEM at their finest. While announcing mass layoffs they can’t even skip a few days of posting about all the jobs in India. Talk about insensitive and clueless! https://www.linkedin.com/company/exxonmobil-india-careers/
I’m honestly scared
My wife got laid off last month after eight years, we’ve got three kids, and if EM hits me with a layoff too, we’re done. I just want to keep my head down, work, and support my family but that seems impossible right now.
Could this have happened at a worse time?
Did you guys see the job market? Was it ever worse than it is now?
I would feel more respected if corporate were honest.

Hot Take? hPXD will struggle in ranking against hXOM

We’re reaching the point where being laid off might actually be a blessing
