Cloud: Hitting all records, but...

Google Cloud has laid off employees despite record-breaking financial results. Workers in user experience and design roles were among those affected, with several posting about the cuts on LinkedIn. Notifications were sent via email earlier this week.

The layoffs come as Google Cloud reported $13.6 billion in Q2 2025 revenue, up 32 percent year-over-year, with operating income hitting $2.8 billion, up 33 percent. The company holds 13 percent global cloud infrastructure market share, ranking third behind AWS (30 percent) and Microsoft (20 percent).

CEO Thomas Kurian recently emphasized the company’s $106 billion backlog and focus on operating discipline, saying Google Cloud is outpacing AWS and Microsoft in revenue growth.

The layoffs add to a broader industry trend, with more than 90,000 tech workers losing jobs in 2025 so far.

Tech jobs not worth holding on to Stop overselling yourself to your employer, quit legacy work instantly, insist on working on latest tech only.

Stop overselling yourself to your employer, quit legacy work instantly, insist on working on latest tech only. Ask them to use AI for old legacy maintennace work.

Tech jobs not worth holding on to Instead take deep look at how your earnings are going back into pockets of corporates and government - the overpriced loq quality home u bought, the over priiced car , the MRP marked up gorcery and Medicines, the status sysbol schools you send your kids to - wake up middle class, u signed up for slavery to look good among peers in society

No one can keep up/stay ahead of AI - trick is to quit the tech job track en masse - who will they sell to in job loss growth scenarios

No can keepup/stay ahead of AI - trick is to quit the tech job track en masse - who will they sell to in job loss growth scenarios.
The moment you do something AI could not do till that point of time, your employer's AI learns it as you do and you dont get next chance to do and become dispensible , AI does it for your employer next time. So skills will have extremely short market demand.

MST home dispatch tech use and abuse company assets

MST home dispatch tech use and abuse company assets. They drive 100K-200K bucket trucks to their home and back to their home garage everyday. Big V8 6.3 L engines use a lot of gas and insurance on top. Also, with MST high pay and only have .5 job per tech a day per tech how is that saving company money and liability.
There are rules to follow when joining home dispatch program. Following the rules helps save gas and time and wear and tear on a vehicle used to drive to work and to home. But MSTs abuse this program from driving to the garage every day and dispatching at the garage. Making a stop at the grocery store to grocery shop in the company vehicle before driving home. Not closing your last job at the job site and instead, drive home and being still dispatched on your work ticket and then closing the job when you arrive home. I follow the rules, and I do not want the home dispatch program to go away because of MSTs taking advantage of the abuse. Also, MST managers are favoring many MSTs and letting the home dispatch MSTs do what ever they want. STOP ABUSING THE HOME DISPATCH PROGRAM YOU MSTs. You know who you are...

Honest question about tech skills

On one hand they tell you to "specialize".

You then specialize.

Then they tell you those skills are no longer the ones they need.

So they fire you.

Then you try to find a new job, you realize the skills you had are not the ones they want because it's too specialized, so you re-skill.

But then they overlook you because you spent time not working or another "issue" (you were spending money and/or time re-skilling).

Can you ever make them happy?

It's an honest question and something I really want to know, so please try not to respond goofy :-)

OneX su-ks so hard

Anyone else notice that OneX su-ks on Sunday when the whole company is trying to do markdowns and fulfillment? Jeez Louise it's annoying!!!! And we've been getting weird errors on it saying it can't retrieve the info or whatever. Macy's tech is useless for these issues. They'll just ask me if I rebooted, used a new battery, or tried to reenroll it.
Ugh! Ok, off my soapbox now

Sales team and support reps laid off in Ireland

Looks like the whole sales team was axed, and some tech support people were laid off too

1 day after the execs flew over from the US to tell us about how they were happy with the work and with the growing headcount. would have been more decent to just not say anything...

how is it looking in other locations?

And this will only get worse

The wave of mass layoffs by big tech (large technology corporations) that has continued since last year is shaking the economy of Seattle, Washington, one of America’s major “technology hubs.”

Business Is Booming for Many Tech Giants. They're Laying Workers Off Anyway.

  • Booming AI demand this week sent Oracle's stock to a record high not long after reports that the computing giant laid off hundreds of workers.
  • Several other tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon have recently cut jobs to lower costs while spending billions on AI expansion.
  • Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has told employees that Amazon expects to operate with a smaller headcount in the coming years as AI advances.

How much is 9K + 18K?

Amazon is cutting more jobs. The company said it will lay off 9,000 workers in the next few weeks. The cuts will hit Amazon Web Services, People Experience and Technology Solutions, advertising, and Twitch. This comes on top of 18,000 layoffs already announced. In total, 27,000 jobs have been cut at Amazon in just four months.

Jassy said the decision is due to the uncertain economy. He explained that Amazon wants to lower costs and run leaner. He added that the final list of roles is not finished yet.

Amazon plans to finish decisions by mid to late April. The company said it will still hire in some key areas. Workers who lose jobs will get pay, health insurance for a short time, and job placement support.

Amazon is not alone. Other tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Meta, PayPal, and Twitter have also cut thousands of jobs. For many tech workers, it is a very hard time right now.

Now Live! AI Tool for Clients

Oh boy. I'm sorry but this company's internal AI tools are cr-p and far behind other companies. I cringe that some tools for clients have been rolled out.

I am so sick of the AI push here to use su-ky internal tools. Pushing us to use AI is coming up in every team meeting/townhall. Nothing against AI at all. What I have a problem with is cr-ppy AI.

C!t!'s tools su-k and are very basic. My child builds better apps that the internal one. I hope clients complain and the media has fun! Lol

India Center of Excellence

Now that India appears to be aligning with China and North Korea- how long can Ford continue to offshore massive amounts of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Tech work there?

Half of Ford’s global enterprise tech team operates from India.

How can Ford remain committed to India as a centre of excellence?

Weird Job Market

I’m recently impacted by the layoffs, and as I’m looking for a new job, I see that the market is very tough. There are a lot of jobs in the banking sector, and they are only for USC or GC. They’re not offering the jobs for visa holder, but the same job is offered to contractor on visa through c-2-c consultancy.
