Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

operations COO signaling tech cuts

"We will be transparent with you and have announcements to make after the holidays": the only kind of news you would want to hold back in this context is layoffs, further leadership changes, or both.

@ee Wait 'till you hear all the shenanigans my Indian colleagues pulled off. Hiring fresh grads in senior positions without tech interviews. Covering for etws having no work, or not doing work when they had it. Devs never committing code to GitHub because data engineering. It's crazy how many people were employed like that. Some of them are still here!

Marketing is a cost center, they don't make any money

Design is a cost center, they don't make money

The only people actually making us money are the factories in other countries

@dz yep i know...and a director in a particular team laid off and the IC's were assigned to the director with no reports. because she is a woman. and know the fun fact. she was a manager for hardly 2-3 years.went to another team as a senior manager in great 2022. stayed in that team without any reports for 1 year.come to office and just sip coffee...and within a year she applied to director positions and stayed on for like a year without any reports. This organization is just crazyyy and su-ks.

He’ll probably crown RA as the new bloody overlord, a bloke who’s never even sat through CS101 and half of GT will chuck a wobbly and pi-s off on the spot. Meanwhile the slackers’ll be crackin’ tinnies and throwin’ a barbie, stoked as, cos finally the blind are leadin’ the blind straight into a glorious sea of mediocrity, mate.

@dz Nike over titles across the board. Call all the ICs lead “x” managers and you end up with directors who are at best managers elsewhere.

@cv in 2023 there were directors with no direct reports.

@a3 look at the org chart and even at leaderhip level its too much top heavy. Director to IC ratio should be minimum 30-40 where as some of the directors hardly have like 2-3 IC's reporting to them. so at top level needs a big change.

I don't know if cycling through managers and VPs changes anything at all at Nike. It's like the company keeps playing the blame game, but does nothing for the rest of us. Nike needs to change its culture at the core: toxicity, favoritism, nepotism, se/x/ism, unfair treatment, and unequal pay, etc., and of course, layoffs need to stop. If the core is not changing, just changing the managers is not going to do much for the rest of us, unless those managers really put in the hard work to clean up the culture.

I missed this, did he share anything about Tech org or changes?

He specifically said “leadership”, so I think that’ll be the bulk of the changes… for now.

Cue the army of people cheering on ICs losing their jobs thanks to their managers' incompetent decisions, and another flame war about India.
