when will mass layoffs happen?

Obviously layoffs are happening in 2026, im wondering if anyone has heard when exactly, specifically for tech?

@rn Fair to say that maybe it doesn’t mean that HR needs to “hire” but rather “they can only prioritize so much at a given time.”

What exactly are they prioritizing right now with the resources they have? Attending parties and expensive offsites with no value? There is clearly a consistent theme of sh**ty leadership and a toxic work environment/culture
Unfortunately HR has prioritized the protection of exposing the real problem and the leaders that are associated with these problems. It’s sick.

HR is not your friend. They protect Nike at any expense and it’s finally caught up to them so they “can’t keep up.” Hahaha

Multiple ETW roles were hired in December with contracts to extend for the remainder of the fiscal year with a requirement to have significant experience in resource restructure.

Without a doubt it’s coming.

@q6 read better. HR getting resourcing doesn’t mean hiring. It means they can only prioritize so much at a given time. You clearly are not in a role that has to deal with team or people management to know how this all works.

@fz haha! “ getting HR resourcing and support to manage the action which Nike is struggling to resource right now.”

This is hilarious. HR isn’t managing ANYTHING. They are just working hard to protect the ones that need to be protected from all of the speak up complaints. They will start the new year trying to get caught up from all of the holiday parties they had to attend. Investing in HR resourcing would be the most fiscally irresponsible thing that Nike could do. Then again….

If history repeats itself, then mass layoffs take A LOT of time and planning. It also means getting HR resourcing and support to manage the action which Nike is struggling to resource right now. I would say it's an end of fiscal exercise at best large scale. You will always see small pockets impacted, but if any big waves come it will take months to get that organized and executed.

If you are on work visa, start applying for jobs right now. If you are a citizen or GC holder, assume that the layoffs are going to happen and just wait for them to kick out with severance, unless you get some really good break.
