Made a mistake not opting for VSP last year… now I am stuck with 25 years and not getting riffed… if they don’t offer VSP soon, I may be forced to just resign with no severance package… call me lucky or privileged, but am looking for suggestions

Corporates - Account Specialists
if you’re an account specialist in corporates you might be cooked 8/10. If you haven’t received your RIF notification already well you’re either safe or they’re coming for you too. I mean they’re eliminating directors, managers, and account specialists. So it doesn’t seem like anyone is spared. It seems like a lot of these people are being let go. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter - blur
Bring your kids to work day....then RIF'd?
Anyone get to take their kid to work and show them how cool was Verizon is and then have to tell the same child that you were kicked to the curb?
Dan’s AI Pitch: The Outsourcing Edition....
After 15 years at Verizon leading AI initiatives, I was swept up in the latest RIF which was ironic, given that one of my current projects was highlighted in Dan’s recent AI pitch.
I began transitioning responsibilities to a senior colleague, only to be told today that I should now train a new hire in India. Same title as mine, brought on last week, fresh out of a 2021 graduation, yet his resume reads like he mentored Sam Altman. Apparently, “worked exclusively with US companies in India” is the new definition of deep experience.
When I asked my Sr. Director for clarity, the response was : “This is out of my hands. More org and budget changes coming soon.”
Translation: brace yourself, the outsourcing wave is just beginning.
Let’s be clear, Verizon isn’t cutting costs by hiring “cheap labor.” as I see some oblivious people saying, these contracts start at $40 an hour and can climb past $60, often padded with fantasy resumes. The difference is they’re remote, from small towns where overhead is low, while Verizon keeps cashing in here in the US.
So don’t fall for the AI fairy tales or the “Verizon values” slogans. The reality is simple:We U.S. employees are being replaced, while our politicians & news outlets are busy with nonsense and the greedy companies keeps pocketing the profits.
I’ve heard that…..
Go for it friends, tell me what ch’a hearing……..
I’ll start - next round of RIFs coming soon. Another 10k+ to go.
Look at T-Mobile, if they can operate with less people, so can we!
Severance after RIF
I work in NJ. I have been Riffed . On salary (and working) until 2/16/2026 plus severance for a lot of weeks. IF I take a job BEFORE 2/16/2025, will I lose MY severance? Someone told me that I will . I have NOT confirmed with HR, yet. Anyone know and is in the same boat? Kind of makes me want to hold off looking for a NEW job!!!!!!!!!!! SO UNfair if true!
Layoffs done this year?
...Or is there a final wave on 12/9?
Weight off my shoulders!
As I realize that many people will struggle following the recent layoff round, I can honestly say getting that call was a godsend for me. Im no longer feeling the pressure of unrealistic goals and endless meetings. Fortunately for me, securing a sound financial plan over the past 24 years has made it possible for me to make the best of this RIF. God Bless all of those affected and hopes for a brighter future Post Verizon…
December and January RIF Dates
Anyone know what are the dates for RIFs in December (if any) and January?
NV RIF next week 12/1/25
Some received Business Update meeting for Monday 12/1/25…
Good luck everyone!
Severance Calculation Sheet Incorrect
Yes, I too have been hit by the recent RIF after 30+ years. Several of my upper management also got hit. Unfortunately, I believe the severance calculation sheet is incorrect. Don't sign until you know for sure. It is much less than what I was told and the numbers actually don't match salary and the cap of 35 weeks. I've scheduled an appointment with HR, but so far, they haven't accepted. Anyone else seeing this?
Happy Thanksgiving
Anyone get a RIF package for the holidays? I know quite a few who actually want it, but they are hard to come by, not many people get the gift 🎁
If someone has received a RIF, what’s it look like in 2025, do they give you anything decent?
Executive Compensation During RIF
While the plan was being developed to layoff 15,000 people a retention bonus was extended to Sampath and the CFO Skiadas. Each received $4,000,000 in stock. Hans will collect close to $25,000,000 for 2025 and will continue to get paid as an advisory member of the board. Dan's salary is $1,500,000 with long term incentives that will mature to $60,000,000.
Let that sink in while you navigate your job search. For those that have expressed guilt because you still have a job and your peers were let go, ask these execs how they manage to sleep at night. They are making a windfall while others suffer. Sam can speak to this in the next all hands and explain how execs and the front line are treated equally.
RIF's just been announced
And so it begins!
EA Internal Opening Posted
Did everyone see an EA position just opened up in BR? I am sure there was someone more than qualified that was just RIFed that could have been retained. It's disgusting to make people flock to one single position in the hope they are not taken off payroll.
I am glad to walk away from this place.
Core sales field
How’s morale for you? I am exhausted from the layoffs. Wish they would just get the firing over with already. This place su-ks now.
Larger load Multiple Directors telling everyone they need to take on more of a load
I saw in previous post same thing was stated .Being told we need to carry a bigger load now.Im relieved to survive the rif but I’m just not sure it’s fair we now have to carry an even bigger load!I mean why should we be expected to carry our own load plus now everyone else load that was let go.Does anyone agree or should we just deal with the bigger load
VSP
I got pretty lucky a while ago after almost 30 yrs i took the VSP and was in the first group in September 2024 at 62...
my verizon health care ends at the end of november and if i want to keep it, it will be out of pocket.
i am covering the last 22 months till i hit 65 and get medicare with va health care, and i still have a good chunk of my vsp money left to live on for now...
i have not touched my 401 or my investmnts yet, and i have not filed for social security either.\
i agree that simplifying your life helps a lot and the drop in stress is a huge bonus!!!
but everyone has different situaitons, different ages and their own finances to adjust to...
work every angle, you might be surprised whats out there to help you.
i wish the best of luck to everyone at verizon dealing with the rif, and if you were good at what you did, another opportunity will come along.
CIO RIF
If you can’t already tell. CIO is under increased scrutiny for headcount. They are looking to reduce costs/headcount by 10% across all CIO pillars for 2026 and achieve something called “reimagine work “ by 2027? I’m not sure what reimagine work is but doesn’t sound good. Especially if it’s following a goal to reduce costs.
Got riffed back before 2010. Never looked back. Looks like management still taking the brunt of these hits
Got riffed back before 2010. Never looked back. Looks like management continues to absorb the brunt of these cutbacks
Layoffs(no java)
I heard Layoffs coming in December, 15th. i heard this from a regional, who heard it from his contact in corporate HR. Hear say but can anyone confirm? and no BS java rant please.
Feeling a bit better made it thru My director told me I should be good next round of layoffs
So we have all been stressed but made it thru .I am feeling better since my director told me I should be ok the next round of rifs after the frontier merger. He said we all may have to pick up the extra slack but it will show we are value.
Us against Vzw
For the ones who stayed and potentially out of a job come the frontier merger / annual riffed employees. We should boycott strike duty so they have no coverage and join a union.
RIF CA remote workers
If you only received a 30 daybWARN notice, CHALLENGE IT. They are trying to sc--w those of us that work remote. Your job profile probably says walnut or Irvine. Contact the Ask HR and be sure to challenge their policy (which is not the law). Here is what I sent... (the more of us that challenge their bad business practice the better for all of us)
Dear HR Department / [Specific HR Contact Name if known],
I am writing to formally acknowledge receipt of the layoff notification dated November 20, 2025, with an effective date of December 20, 2025.
Given the significant number of employees affected by the recent workforce reduction, both within California and company-wide, I have questions regarding the notice period provided under applicable state and federal laws, specifically the California WARN Act and the federal WARN Act.
The notice I received provides 30 days' advance notice. However, both the federal WARN Act and the California WARN Act generally require employers to provide at least 60 days' advance written notice for mass layoffs.
I kindly request the following information:
Clarification of the Notice Period: Please confirm if the 30-day notice period is being provided in accordance with a specific exception to the 60-day notice requirement (such as the "unforeseeable business circumstances" or "faltering company" exceptions), and if so, provide documentation supporting the applicability of that exception.
Documentation of Compliance: Please provide documentation verifying that notice has been given to the appropriate state agency (California Employment Development Department (EDD)) and local government officials as required by the WARN Act regulations. Employers can email their notices to the EDD at eddwarnnotice@edd.ca.gov.
I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to receiving the requested information.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]

Just when I thought rifs were over I’m hearing us further up after Frontier merger
Man will there ever be piece .I figured so was safe but heard from above that it’s not done.I hope I survive the next round
Keep Kicking a RIFer while they are down
Bad enough after 30 years to get kicked to the curb as a high performer, but now they are starting to remove people from the Slack groups. Just another reminder of you are just a number. Couldn't wait until everyone is off the payroll, just keep ripping off the band aid again and again.
People getting fired out of RIF time
Upset and sad to hear that an exceptionnally competant colleague was told today was their last day.
Where is illumina going depleting itself of its talent.
It s sad to see such a previously notorious company falling into pieces.
Laid off people expected to continue to work thru the date
Anyone else like he-l no.Im done not doing nothing .Its over I’m riffed pay me my severance it’s not supposed to be work weekly pay checks
Signing Off Verizon Layoffs Site Til Next Time ("Burnout")
It's Over and out to the Verizon Layoffs site until the next RIF. I'm totally burnt out.
To those still here @Verizon, see you soon!!
More layoffs Monday 9/24?
I heard the SD’s and above are going to be riffed today since they are done riffing ppl below them. Good luck!!!
Are we expected to work?
RIF'ed last day 12/20, was given thursday and friday off...but am i expected to be fully doing my job/attending emails/being response for 1 month? What are they gonna do? Fire me again?
AI
Isn't it just pathetic that anything they ever mention in these town hall meetings is AI? Who cares about AI and their silly agents. FIS dropped 24% in 12 months, they are doing massive RIFs, morale is very very low and all they can do is wear silly hats and talk about AI.
RIF selection process
The criteria for every RIF is usually different. It starts out with getting a list using some generic criteria. They do this for legal reasons, so they can legally justify that the RIF applied to a group of people and someone was not being singled out or discriminated against. Examples of lists in the past, anyone who worked remote (pre-Covid), anyone who got less than a 3 on their review, any manager with less than 5 reports, or any director that is lower than 5 levels deep. As a manager, you need to be cautious about how you answer any surveys about your employees. For example, once they asked about employee roles and if a QA was a manual tester or automated tester. A couple months later all the manual testers were on the list.
Once the generic list is created, it is shared with managers to a certain level. Sometimes the immediate manager is informed of who is is on the list but sometimes they are not. The managers who get to see the list than have to fight to get someone off and that fight isn't easy. If they do manage to win, they often then need to supply a different name.
All in all, there is usually a financial target they are trying to hit and that can impact how the list is created as well. Products they want to disinvest in will have more people on the list than products that they think will be the next big thing.
I found this informative. OP: @aw+1kakcej6y
Anything new about layoffs?
We keep hearing that more cuts are coming, and the rumor mill is nonstop at this point. If anyone has anything even remotely reliable to share, please do. It’d help a lot of us figure out what to expect instead of stressing over every random whisper.
Goodby and good riddance
I have been at Optum for 8 years. I love my team. I had a really great Manager until they brought in a Design guy who was some influencer. This dude was an a-s clown.. The problem was not him, it was leadership above him. They wanted to bring in someone who would “shake things up”.. Well, they did. He was a train wreck. Since then things have gone down hill. Our leadership acts and has the intelligence of a JV squad at a community college. They make cr-p decisions, they tell us to embrace AI and then don't give us money to get tools that use AI. We are led by fools and mo--ns. I have been waiting for this RIF for at least a year. Happy it is finally here. I no longer need to worry if it is gonna happen to me or when. I wish all the employees well, I wish leadership to get a clue. Last person off site.. Make sure to turn off the lights (or get someone from India to do it). After all… Thats where all the work is going.. Bye for now :-)
Anyone plan to volunteer for the next RIF?
Does anyone else plan to volunteer for the next RIF? My manager said she firmly believes there will be another RIF after the Frontier merger and that it will impact our department. I have been unhappy in my role for the last year or so (largely due to changes that happened since the VSP). Can we volunteer for the next RIF? Or does that not carry any weight?
OLR and stack ranking by end of Jan and AWS layoff by end of February 2026
There is a new top down order for the VP level stack ranking to be done by end of JAN and the bottom 20% to be part of the upcoming AWS layoff in FEB.
2026 Union Contracts
I can't wait until VZ royally sc--ws up the negotiations in 2026 and has to redeploy the remaining management employees that just saw 20% of their peers RIFed to climb the poles and install fiber again.
The RIF-ening is not over
RIF-Giving
RIF-pocolypse
RIF-Day
Whatever you want to call it is not over.
For certain, all Retail Senior Managers are actively being stack-ranked and your fate will be determined in the near future. So for you lazy store managers, you've already made your bed, and they know.
