Millennials Seek Layoffs Amid Career Dissatisfaction

Many mid-career millennials are dissatisfied with their current jobs. They prefer an external push like a layoff to voluntarily leaving. A survey by online education platform ELVTR found 37% of millennials are unhappy in their roles. Nearly six in 10 hoped for a layoff to exit their job. This trend is called "career dysmorphia" by ELVTR's CEO.

Gen X

Artemis astronaut ages ranging from 47 to 50. They are all GenXers, in a "sweet spot" of maximum competence and experience. Meanwhile at ExxonMobil’s we can’t abuse our Gen X employees enough and can’t run them off fast enough.

Millennials just wait you are next in line.

..Remember when the millennial's told you..

Do your best, always. Still, the reality is that the days of staying in one position for 20 years, earning steady raises, and feeling protected from RIF conversations are gone.

For those who are hurting, it makes sense. You invested a lot of yourself. But it’s also a moment to reflect, especially when younger generations have often been labeled as less committed or less invested. When they were just more optimized. You should have been learning from them.

This is the reality of 2026. Nothing work related is special about any of us.

My heart goes out to those who are out of work. There is something here for all of us to learn.

Which Generation Are You?

Silent Generation (1928 to 1945)
Followed rules, kept their heads down, built quietly

Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964)
Lived large, bought everything, now gatekeeping everything.

Gen X (1965 to 1980)
Trusts no one, complains little, secretly runs the world,

Millennials (1981 to 1996)
Chased purpose, got burnout, still pretending their fine.

Gen Z (1997 to 2012)
Questions everything, trusts nothing, feels everything

Gen Alpha (2013 to 2025)
Born with iPads, raised by YouTube, future unknown

RTO Is Dead — Top Talent Won’t Play the Attendance Game

https://www.aol.com/articles/cubicles-dead-says-kevin-oleary-171606254.html

The workforce is changing and companies ignoring it are setting themselves up to fail. Kevin O’Leary recently said, “Cubicles are dead,” and warned that forcing people back into offices will only attract the bottom quartile of talent. Millennials and Gen Z now dominate the labor market, and for them work-life balance and flexibility are not perks, they are baseline expectations. As Baby Boomers phase out, companies insisting on five-day RTO will find themselves competing for the shrinking pool of workers who can’t leave.

RTO isn’t just a morale issue. It destroys value, drives top talent away, and leaves companies exposed with only the least mobile employees. The lesson is clear: productivity, collaboration, and retention follow autonomy, not attendance. Any leadership that believes otherwise is betting against the future of work.

Stinky hates boomers, millenials hate Stinky

Not sure where Stinky wants to get his future employees from. Based on this article, no millenial would want to work at AT&T. Then again, who would?

“So many millennials are realizing that the version of success we were told would be there for us if we did everything right is not available anymore. It doesn’t exist in the way we were told.

“I think millennials listened and played by the rules, and were told, if we did that, we’d be financially set. However, the expected sense of security and fulfillment never arrived."

Baby Boomers

All baby boomers, how do you feel about GM and everything that's going on currently? I understand how my fellow millennials feel. I also know that after a little time here we jump off to better opportunities and seem to find these easily. Let's try and keep it civil here.

Thanks OP, this thread is pure #GOLD

MetLife Millennials

Shame at 200 Park, where there are #millennials who stroll in whenever, socialize all day, leave early and then get promoted. Adding zero value, while hard workers are being let go. Very painful to see this.

Management needs to seriously do a better job of weeding out the lazy and unproductive or at the very least, hold them accountable.

I am just going to tag this... Cannot add any other value to this discussion.

Toys R Us blames millennial for not having kids as part of their demise.

Yet another company not being accountable for their failures. Glad the guy who started the company died the day before their demise was announced. Probably died of a very wealthy broken heart.

So what's Mattel's excuse? When is the chapter 11 filing? They need to do something to make those golden parachutes ineffective so those meatheads at the top leave with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a box of crap from their desk.

No one deserves a trophy/parachute for failure.
