Optum Tech Manipulating Annual Scores

Can’t say all of Optum Tech, just my area. I have about 20 people under me and I gave out two 5’s, six 4’s, the rest were 3’s.
I was informed this morning I am “allotted” zero 5’s, one 4, and I need to give out at least three 2’s.
Upper management is really pushing for the 2’s to the sent their way by end of week.
Last year 3’s and lower got NO raise and bonus was about half of the allotted amount.
Read into it what you will.

The Glory Days of this company

If you worked there prior to 2000yr, then you remember how great a company this was.
People could worked their way up the job ladder through hard work.

The company rewarded employees with good raises and bonuses.
The company motto was " Our employees are our greatest assets"

Then around 2000yr a dark cloud appeared and the company became obsessed with
saving money through any means.

Suddenly raises and bonuses were reduced to 2%. Then came the period of working
2 to 3 years with no raises or bonuses.

Departments saw their staff cut 25% to 40% sometimes 50%
To add insult to injury then came in the massive flux of H1B workers to take jobs from
U.S workers.

The Callousness of it All

We all knew it'd be ugly but wow oh wow.. let's just summarize what we were told:

Stop prioritizing personal matters and start to prioritize Xerox.

In his famous word salad told us that we need to manage our lives at home and how we are spending our money - no raises, costs of living, etc - but WE need to make changes to make the company successful. Tried making comparisons to credit cards and interest rates. He even brought up groceries, rising costs, and all that... but WE are the ones that need to make changes. Changes like... not eat? Not have a family or live in a box?? What changes should WE be making??

At the very start of the meeting he mentioned someone who is a new mother, and someone else who needs to make the choice to put their child into private school or not. He brought these up in a sad attempt to tell us we either need to make sacrifices for the company OR need to leave to pursue the dreams we want. But let's be real.... he KNOWS the job market is dead. He KNOWS people are struggling to eat, to pay rent/mortgage, to make ends meet. So of course he is going to lecture we need to sacrifice our needs and our families to "invest in the company".

Bankruptcy Likely

Most deep dive analyst are now predicting bankruptcy as soon as 2026. Even with stock going so low nobody will buy the company.
Get what you can out of the pension fund now.
The cuts were just a show, most were at or near retirement age.
With no raises and flex PTO and no 401K match in 2026 is a sure sign of bankruptcy planning.

What’s keeping you holding on to this job?

Honest question. I haven’t had a raise in years, and I haven’t seen a real chance to move up, or even just switch roles, for what feels like forever. It’s like being stuck on a treadmill, exhausted but not getting anywhere. The only thing keeping me here is how scarce other opportunities are right now. I really wish I’d made a move back when there were still options to choose from.

I decided to work 2 jobs remotely and not give a cr-p about O

Yes, I have two remote jobs, and I love it. Here’s why:

I haven’t received a raise at my current job. They don't seem to care about me, so why should I care about them?
It feels like everyone is being let go, and I need a backup plan.
I’m not learning anything at my job, and management is ridiculous.
No career growth

I'm just there to collect a pay check

I feel completely detached as a loyal employee, and honestly, that’s a great feeling.

Pay Grades Decreasing

I've seen a previous Gr 18 role posted as Gr 17, and previous Gr 17 role posted as Gr 16 this week. Ironically, the job descriptions appear to include more responsibilities.

July 1, 2025 Indeed company review for U.S. Bank by a Corporate Recruiter:

"New CEO is about profit not employees

moral and culture have tanked
recently DECREASED what we pay employees and anyone above will not get merit
WHO DECREASES WHAT THEY WILL START EMPLOYEES AT WHEN INFLATION IS AT ALL TIME HIGH??
there is no pay for skill, they say they pay for an opportunity which is not what the culture used to be
been here for years, used to love my job and now I HATE it and can't wait to get out

Linkedin peans

It’s really ridiculous reading these bragging about Q1 financial success and people excited below in the comments with peans. This results cost hundreds suddenly laid off employees, not raises, not focal for every singular worker. That’s exactly the politics - you are important, you bulid our success.
