    Industry: Oil and gas

ConocoPhillips, one of the largest independent oil and gas companies in the United States, has announced plans to cut up to 3,250 jobs worldwide by the end of 2025. This represents between 20 and 25 percent of its global workforce. The company said the layoffs are part of a restructuring effort driven by falling crude oil prices, rising production costs, and broader economic pressures that have reduced profitability.

Headquartered in Houston, ConocoPhillips became a standalone upstream energy company in 2012 after spinning off its downstream operations into Phillips 66. The company is publicly traded, and ownership is spread across institutional investors, mutual funds, hedge funds, and individual shareholders — meaning no single entity controls it outright.

Leadership remains under CEO and Chairman Ryan Lance, who has held the role since 2012. During his tenure, the company has expanded through acquisitions, most recently completing a $22.5 billion purchase of Marathon Oil earlier this year. Despite this growth, the company is now moving aggressively to cut costs and reposition itself amid ongoing volatility in the global energy sector.

UC San Diego Health faces backlash over layoffs of 230 workers

The layoffs, announced on Monday, represent about 1.5% of the health system's workforce and include a range of frontline healthcare providers.

Company: UC San Diego Health
Number of People Laid Off: 230
Locations: San Diego, CA
Industry: Healthcare

UC San Diego Health has laid off about 230 employees across its hospitals and clinics, representing roughly 1.5 percent of its workforce. The cuts included a range of frontline healthcare workers such as pharmacists, clinical social workers, and laboratory scientists. The health system said the decision was driven by financial pressures, citing federal policy changes, regulatory uncertainty, and rising costs of care.

The move has sparked backlash from labor representatives, who argue that layoffs will worsen existing staffing shortages and jeopardize patient safety. Union leaders warned that reducing staff could increase the risk of diagnostic errors and leave nurses and other providers overwhelmed.

Some employees were reportedly dismissed mid-shift with little notice. One former IT staff member described being handed paperwork, given a few minutes to collect his belongings, and then escorted out. Workers and unions alike expressed concern that patients seeking care at one of the region’s top hospitals may not realize the strain staff are under behind the scenes.

On 15K Layoffs

Microsoft has laid off around 15,000 employees so far in 2025. The move has created widespread anxiety among staff, and even CEO Satya Nadella admitted the impact has been weighing on him personally. In a memo to employees, he acknowledged the pain and uncertainty these job cuts have caused, calling it part of the “enigma of success” in the fast-changing tech industry. He explained that progress in technology is never linear, but rather dynamic, disruptive, and demanding.

In the same memo, Nadella shifted the focus to Microsoft’s long-term vision. For nearly a decade, the company’s mission has been to empower every individual and organization to achieve more. Now, he believes the mission must evolve in the era of artificial intelligence. Instead of simply building tools for specific roles or tasks, Microsoft will work to create platforms that allow people to build their own tools.

Nadella emphasized that Microsoft is moving away from being just a software company to becoming an “intelligence engine.” The company wants to provide creative AI capabilities that individuals and organizations can use to build whatever they need. While this shift presents new opportunities, Nadella warned that it will not be easy. Employees will need to unlearn old ways of working, adapt quickly, and acquire new skills in order to thrive in this new phase.

Imperial Oil to be bought out ?

Rumor has it that IOL LT went to Houston to receive new set of instructions on what to do with their company. Quarry Park HQ is most likely being closed down and staff being moved to downtown (and hundreds of job layoffs in calgary).

Some people saying Exxon will take a full stake in IOL to enable this cut.

Not your father's Chevron!

Chevron was once a great company that valued loyalty, years of service and experience. Your 20+ years of service was looked at as an asset that would be rewarded by a career in which you could choose when to retire with dignity. No longer the case. Under the 'profit right now' short-sighted leadership of Mike Wirth and a phony worthless HR dept, as soon as times got tough they shamelessly let go of their most tenured and loyal employees. Ageism 101. What's left is a batch of fearful, low-morale employees that fully realize how dispensible they are at any given moment. To prospective Chevron employees I say the current state of the company is not worth your time and effort. Look elsewhere where you'll be valued as an asset and not a disposable object at the company's whim.

Thanks, Mr. Wirth for destroying what was once a top workplace filled with content employees. Under your leadership the company is now a shell of its former glory.

What were the signs?

To all folks who have been laid off or know someone who was laid off by Cigna, what were the signs?

I’m talking about everything you noticed from management disengagement, anything “off” or not that lead to that last minute meeting

This could be helpful to reduce shock value to a lot of us who will probably get that WebEx meeting sometime in the future.

Your performance rating doesn't matter.

Given that the lay off selection didn't consider a person's performance rating, how on earth does Oracle think they can motivate the employees who remain ?

Well, apart from maintaining a culture of fear and simply telling them that "youre lucky you still have a job".

Thank you for your service .... sorry, no focal again.

Auto Underwriting is sc--wed

We were just told by our TM that personal lines will be over staffed by around 500 by the end of the year. Said people we will either be moved to claims or part of the severance/transition. She told us that they are waiting on upper leadership/HR to decide if we were going to be part of a transition plan. It's only going to get worse as more states go thru mod. I have a feeling the remote folks will be the first to be targeted. I worked in claims 13 years ago when we went through the transition in auto claims. It was awful then and my friends that are still there say it is so misrable that people are quitting daily, out on leave or getting fired. DO NOT take a claims job, you won't make it and will either quit or get fired and miss out on voluntary severance if we have that option. Again people think about it and talk to people in claims, take the severance and run! This place is an absolute total sh-t show!

Big Prom Date on the 15th

So does anyone have any actual news about actual layoffs coming up on September 15th? Per the contract we should know if any department will get buyouts of layoffs for the next quarter (bargained for that is) right before Christmas.
Here in southwest Construction dept had info of a reorganization among the state of Texas then it was all put on ice.
I assume they are waiting for surplus announcement first.
Repair department gets one job a day and most guys have nothing else all day so I can only assume their time is up but no news around here, anyone know anything about next week announcements please share.

So I believe there will be a Eisp for union employees

So the opinion is that with contract coming in next summer the company would never offer a buy out .I believe the whispers I hear of the opposite. What better time scare the guys who been on the fence with the possibility of a strike .Then you lower the already low numbers right before a strike with a package they can’t refuse. The real bargaining issues are already retiree issues !!!So the company knows this retiree issue is now the biggest issue to deal with!!I would be on the look out for a union associate package in oct.Along with tons of management buyouts. The Verizon motto Less headcount is already well on its way

be ok as it will be close to the end of the best times

Yes we are near the good old end of the time. Nobody is going to buy a new phone or change a plan. As they loose their jobs lines will be cut. One line and another line will get cut. The old school land line will be back for like 25 dollars. and we don't need a portable phone anymore. We won't carry it...We also won't want it. Just like we don't watch TV anymore. the best of the times will come. no more jobs for india.

Oracle laid off the wrong people

I'm stuck working with people whose IQ is a few points above than a box of rocks. Not the sharpest tool in the tool shed, and I wind up doing their jobs for them. Not only do the smart, hard working people that got laid off got the shaft, but those also that remained with those that should have been let go.

It”s Bad

Layoffs have been happening in small batches. Ford Credit customer service got hit hard this week. you could not get a breath between calls till Friday and that was only because they kept asking for voluntary overtime from employees. Also other depts that we transfer calls to must have gotten cut again because their estimated wait time to answer a call went through the roof. Most of our reps are in Mexico now anyway and Panama for Loss Prevention, etc. I believe Monday Sept. 8th is going to be another firing day. We asked team leaders what was going on since we knew that many people would not be on vacation at the same time, scheduling won’t allow it. All TL did was stutter some stupid answer, not really an answer. I noticed a few of my over 25 year co workers in customer service disappeared starting Monday, August 25th

Squid Games comes to Oracle

It feels like Yong-Hee has visited every location, region and remote worker over the last two weeks. Squid Games is real and we know LE and Catz are the ones in the masks calling the shots when it hits RED. The only ones left getting Mr Piggy are the not the workers thats for sure.
