Layoffs coming especially in tech

Heard rumours of layoffs coming especially in tech from September due to poor company performance and execs that obsess over AI especially the ones who used to be at global payment and bailed due to promotion and couldn’t handle the role. India is expanding so if you invest in invesco it’s all controlled via India now.

To me this whole thing just craps.

I don’t know about you but I bust my hump working long hard and nonstop rapid pace. I eat at my laptop and I’m feeling like no matter how good or great or exceptional it’s never going to be enough. Add this and sprinkle in AI and globalized competing for jobs but I don’t know how I’ll survive all of this. Literally abc figuratively.

Total panic

“The machines are coming! We need security! We need quality!”

Amazing, right? For years, engineers were just “resources,” completely interchangeable, no need to listen to them. Now, overnight, they’re supposed to save the company from the big scary algorithms.

So now we get meetings, policies and buzzwords. Security this, quality that. Very impressive words, everybody’s saying them.

But here’s the problem, and it’s a big one: you can’t slap some shiny new technology on top of a rotten, inhumane culture and expect miracles. Doesn’t work. Never has. If you treat people like disposable parts, don’t be shocked when the whole machine starts rattling - AI or no AI.

It is a business decision towards strategically align our model with the global shift towards AI

So the way script goes is,

It has been strategically decided that your position is being eliminated with broader interest towards shift in technology and geo political landscape.

the decision does not reflect your ability to fully function as an associate and the decision is strictly driven based on parameters beyond the control of global market shift.

You will be notified separately on how your shares, 401k will be vested.

We thank you for your contribution and all the best in your journey .

David Griffith, the CTO, is the new AI head

Replacing Shobith Varshney. Not sure how the move is going to work itself out, given technology at Citi has a long way to go before it can be called as modernized. That would take a dedicated person

Anyway, I remember some who used to say David is Trim Ryan, given references to London but well... The position could also be a crown of thorns. Good luck to David either way

Freshworks Reduces Workforce by 500 for AI Focus

Freshworks is reducing its global workforce by approximately 500 employees. This represents about 11 percent of its total staff. The company attributes these layoffs to an AI-focused restructuring strategy. CEO Dennis Woodside stated that over half of Freshworks’ code is now written by AI. This automation has reduced repetitive work across various functions.

PayPal to Reduce Workforce for AI Development

PayPal plans to cut 20% of its staff. This reduction will take place over the next two to three years. The company aims to accelerate its adoption of artificial intelligence. These job eliminations are also part of a cost-cutting initiative. CEO Enrique Lores stated PayPal underinvested in its technology platform.

Manager AI bot li---r

Does anyone else have a manager who’s fully surrendered to AI?

Every decision gets delayed because it has to go through ChatGPT first. You get assigned things that aren’t actually possible because “AI said it could be done,” then get told to use AI to figure it out. Eventually they try it themselves and realize the request wasn’t possible in the first place.

Every idea/process supposedly has a “better way” because AI will always suggest optimizations, rewrites, or process changes, even when they make zero sense given the actual constraints.

They send emails that are so obviously AI-written it hurts. Domain expertise gets ignored if it conflicts with the AI response.

And the best part: when I say something, it gets pushed back on. But if I explain that I am reading what AI responded with, suddenly they agree.

(Full disclaimer, I used AI to reword my post)

All in on AI Chaos

Morale is at all time low, teams are divided, some with connections travel to WDF and Palo Alto for All in on AI workshops and the rest become mere spectators of what’s next to come without any stake in decisions.

Joule for Work rebranding of Joule Studio was a big flop in the 2 demo sessions, not fit for Sapphire launch, buggy, slow and complicated like a typical SAP product. SAP has mastered the art of making simple things complicated and buying new companies to keep the revenue going.

This house of cards will fall soon and all the old investments will go bust from wdf oldies.

Quantum Will Supercharge Medicine. IBM’s Milestone Proves the Future Is Near.

Was AK correct that the quantum age is nigh?

As investors await a quantum revolution, researchers are already delivering the first tremors.Look
no further than the latest study from International Business Machines,
conducted alongside Riken and Cleveland Clinic. Scientists linked IBM quantum systems
to two of the world’s most powerful supercomputers: Fugaku at Riken and
Miyabi-G, operated by the University of Tokyo and the University of
Tsukuba.The end
result was a protein complex spanning more than 12,000 atoms. While
highly technical, the demonstration has clear applications in dr-g
discovery and medicine, potentially delivering the transformation that
quantum enthusiasts have long promised.“They’re
the largest known molecules to be simulated thus far with quantum
computing,” Jerry Chow, IBM’s chief technology officer of
quantum-centric computing, said ahead of the announcement. He
is describing what IBM and Cleveland Clinic define as “biologically
meaningful molecules.” The protein simulated in this case is called
trypsin, a heavyweight in the world of biology. Without it, the body
would struggle to perform one of its most basic functions: breaking down
proteins into the building blocks it needs to survive.A lot of quantum research
has centered on this type of work, which has clear applications in dr-g
development. However, investors have been eager for results that prove
quantum computers are useful for something other than lab-scale
demonstrations.“The
hook here is that we want to go to a world where we have much better
therapeutics and things that make all of our lives better,” Chow
explained. “Fundamentally core to that is understanding how molecules
behave, how molecules interact with things such as water. In many ways,
this is the largest demonstration to date.”Kenneth
Merz, the lead author of the study, agrees. “I always go to the dr-g
discovery angle,” Merz said. “We’re developing methods to discover dr-gs
to improve human health. But there’s also this concept of divide and
conquer.”Merz, a
staff scientist at Cleveland Clinic, leads a lab dedicated to building
computational tools that apply theoretical math to biological research.
The latest experiment shows how existing hardware can be paired with
quantum machines to solve problems that today’s computers cannot handle
alone, he said.“You
take a very big problem and break it into small pieces that are able to
run on current-generation hardware, and then stitch it together to get
the global answer,” Merz explained. The team stopped short of claiming quantum advantage, a milestone many investors are watching closely.Quantum
advantage refers to a system’s ability to outperform classical
computers at a range of tasks, doing so more efficiently, accurately,
and inexpensively. While often viewed as the true tipping point for the
technology, focusing solely on this milestone risks overlooking the
incremental progress made along the way.Chow
emphasized that any claim of quantum advantage must be validated
against established, rigorous testing frameworks. The scientific
community isn’t there yet, and to date, there is no consensus whether or
not true advantage has been achieved.“What
we’re seeing is this groundswell of pushing the envelope of what can be
done,” Chow continued. “We’re using these machines and these
capabilities to look in these areas where we know classical methods will
struggle.”He views
the latest study as part of a larger puzzle. “It’s not a singular moment
in time for quantum advantage,” Chow said. “But we’re certainly in this
phase where we’re absolutely using these machines to do real exciting
work.”

700 jobs gone

Erased due to AI. Although I call bullsh-t. It's not AI. They just want to get rid of as many of us as they can and they're using the latest available excuse. AI creates more work than it saves. I know, I've been dealing with its mistakes for a while now. If AI is really the reason, then this place will go under sooner than anybody thinks.

Toptal Forecasts Remote Tech Roles Expanding Despite Cuts

Toptal predicts growth in remote tech roles. These jobs demand extensive prior experience. This trend happens amidst broad technology job cuts. More than 150,000 technology positions were cut by April. AI integration increases demand for expert workers.

Fiserv looks stable as a company but unstable as an employer

The Q1 2026 results strengthen the case that leadership will keep pushing productivity, automation, AI, severance, consolidation and expense control. The company is not in existential danger based on results but the numbers are weak enough that employees should assume continued restructuring risk. I wouldn't interpret this as a reason to panic yet.

Coinbase Reduces Employee Count, Cites Market, AI

Coinbase announced it will cut approximately 700 jobs. This represents about 14% of its global workforce. The company cites crypto market volatility and cost reduction as reasons. It also aims to reposition the business for the artificial intelligence era. These restructuring efforts are expected to incur $50 million to $60 million in charges.

Concerning new job posted - AI Engineer for FP&A

A new job has been posted, they are looking to hire someone to develop AI to take processes, procedures, analysis, etc out of the hands of current workers and into the bowels of AI. The worst part is that the job description includes making the AI in compliance with audit standards and SOX public standards. All while following the rules of controls and separation of duties? How can this be taken seriously? Trusting that data is properly handled, accounting is done up to high standards, and that our financial statements are accurate in the hands of newly developed AI? More layoffs coming to FP&A if this job gets filled? Whoever takes this job will be a yes-man and completely wreck our financial accuracy.

SAP to track AI adoption

I was told by my manager that SAP is launching a global AI adoption program and will track the usage of LLMs and other AI features on SAP products. They plan to coincide the launch with Sapphire so there will also be a big buzz about it. I bluntly asked if this is going to be used to determine one's performance and my manager said yes. Apparently, we are all supposed to use AI as much as possible in our day to day work and improve efficiency and productivity by doing more work in less time. Our area is deciding to add an area level performance goal that everyone contributes to but we are also asked to include AI in our other goals.

I really don't get it. Yes, I find AI somewhat useful in my work especially if I am researching something. But NO it is not gamechanging to my work. I feel so disappointed by this move that I plan to only use AI but not get work done because no one cares about work anymore and all they care about AI adoption. I feel like we are training our replacements. If AI is useful, why does management need to force everyone to use it?

Half of our management can't even use AI because they are too old school and because they only use German in emails and chats and conversations and AI is somewhat useless in German. Is this also happening in other areas now?

Coinbase Reduces Workforce, Citing AI Efficiency Gains

Coinbase is reducing its workforce by 14%. CEO Brian Armstrong shared the news on X. He cited a need for greater company efficiency. Armstrong also noted AI's impact on changing work processes. Engineers now use AI to complete tasks in days that previously took weeks.

The Fall of Rome

Huge operation center quietly getting set up in the Philippines. Layoffs every 2 months through 2027. Poland to have massive layoffs. Berwyn Pennsylvania getting gutted. India given increased role they can’t handle. Senior Management denies all and plays d-mb with the mid level managers. Mangers in London, Germany, and Singapore making all the decisions now. This is no longer an American company. Offshore, offshore, offshore. AI, AI, AI - which has proven to be a failure so far. PA is a particular mess, with virtually no competent leaders left. No leaders of people, just senior managers who have no idea of what actually occurs in their own office and couldn’t identify half the people they see on the way to the bathroom. 12-14 hour days are the norm and expected. Run far, far away from this company, unless you are filipino. Then you have a future. Or maybe if you want to do client service. They’ll need to hire more there to explain to all the clients why Rome is burning and the service has become dogshit. Side note, they’ll do a terrible job explaining because they have no idea what is going on. just mouthpieces…. My advice, get out now, especially if you are in the US or Poland. The founders of SS are rolling in their graves at what Uncle Ron and Clair Williams have done to the place.

More cuts at Shopify

This time it’s revenue operations and customer support. We all know this is tied to AI, and it’s ridiculous how little anyone in charge actually seems to care about customers. AI has already proven to be pretty awful when it comes to customer support across the board. You can’t scroll through Twitter or any other platform without seeing people asking how to reach a real person at one company or another. Welcome to your future, Shopify customers.

Atento Subsidiary Cuts South Florida Customer Service Jobs

An Atento subsidiary plans significant layoffs. Nearly 100 employees will lose their jobs. These cuts affect operations in South Florida. Most impacted roles are in customer service. These positions are considered vulnerable to AI.

Chinese court rules companies can't fire workers just because AI is cheaper — ruling says automation alone doesn't justify layoffs

Can you hear me now?

Impact of AI in your own team?

Many of the conversations here focus on RTO, offshoring and site closures. Personally, I think those issues are small compared with what the firm is contemplating with AI adoption — but there’s hardly any discussion about it in this forum.

What have you noticed in your own team? Are you seeing “digital employees” doing meaningful work? Have vacancies been closed with AI cited as a reason? Have contractors or staff been let go with AI mentioned as a factor?

I’ve heard this is already happening in the engineering organisation, with the “fisherman lady” setting rather ambitious targets

FIG’s fate

With Dhyvia I really had no confidence and am tremendously worried about further layoffs. With Vishay maybe a little better but still very worried. We need more expertise and professional knowledge — AI is just not the answer. I hope the management team sees that through and through!
