Lightsource bp - any intel on what’s happening?

Whatever happened to the plan to bring in a partner / sell down Lightsource bp?

Feels like this one disappeared into the bp “strategic review” black hole. Lots of noise when it was announced, then… tumbleweed.

Anyone hearing anything credible? Is a deal moving, valuation expectations miles apart, or just a dog we can’t get rid of?

PayPal Announces Strategic Reorganization to Accelerate Growth

PayPal announced a major reorganization to streamline its business into three core divisions and accelerate growth, alongside several leadership changes and executive departures. The company emphasized simplification, stronger accountability, and increased focus on AI-driven transformation as part of its long-term strategy.

While no layoffs were formally announced, restructurings of this scale are often accompanied by workforce reductions. As PayPal aligns teams to its new operating model and removes overlapping roles, it is widely expected that a reduction in headcount—potentially affecting around 15% of employees—could follow in the coming weeks to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

AI enablement center

If you care about longevity in your career or a stable and evolving strategy...stay away from Cigna. Not sure whose bright idea it was to have a group of fresh college kids and HIH create an AI slop fest of tech. Not to mention all the senior technologists are the ones who managed to create a cr-p show for us at express scripts.

Expect them to do what they did to a lot of us in esi.

Run. Run far and away

Help

If you are wondering if your office will be closing soon let me help you figure that out.

  1. Go to workday.
  2. Go to your organizations
  3. Find organization that list all of the employees who report to your building or office.
  4. Write that number down.
  5. Figure out the capacity of your building(Google search or gemini)
  6. Now do some quick math and divide the employees of that org over buildings capacity and times that by 100.
  7. If your number is below 65% capacity, your office is almost certainly closing.

Remeber Q2 starts in a few days and they have a strategic plan to save 5billion on opex spending. Without closing a ton of offices, how else would you think they would get there?

XOM Strategic Workforce Planning - Case Study for a failed organization

ExxonMobil will be a case study for how not to do strategic workforce planning. All of the HR Talent management programs are being put together to deliver the lowest cost organization for the long term which is very different to an organization that can continue to deliver. Give it 5years and the organization will be unable to deliver. The HR Leadership team don’t realize the impact of losing our friends in Canada, Australia, UK, Malaysia, Europe and there’s more to come. India is the future but not going to deliver what the organization needs or wants. BIg bet is a gamble for the future. Get our now

Three Year Plan

So our three year plan to regain the number one spot is:

  • using AI. Yet Service Now, Hercules, Chip and Clip, etc have been unmitigated disasters. Everyone hates them. And it makes are jobs so much harder.
  • Hiring in Hubs: the hub employees are some of the worst I’ve seen in the ten years I’ve worked here.
  • getting rid of utilizing agents office for the digital experience. But our systems are trash and our older insureds don’t want to bother with it.

I look forward to the next 3 year plan to take back the number 2 spot from Geico once they pass us up.

Layoffs 1 Year Later

So how do the layoffs which tool place 1 year ago look now as a strategic initiative ?

On December 23, 2024, AM Best wrote the following:

Mutual of America Financial Group is laying off employees as part of its focus on becoming a "more efficient, strategic and customer-focused organization."

Is it more efficient now ?
Is it more client focused ?
Is this all just smoke and mirrors ?

Project ‘sounds something like a top g-n character’

Big internal programs like this almost always arrive wrapped in promise and land in phases, pilots, exceptions, “next wave.” Especially at Dell Technologies scale. Even when the intent is real, gravity is real too.

What tends to happen in practice:

Year 1: decks, roadmaps, leadership optimism

Year 2: partial tools, parallel systems, extra clicks

Year 3: the thing quietly becomes “how we’ve always done it,” just renamed

HP is funding Trump’s ballroom

What is the ROI on this and how does it align with our strategic planning?
At a time where we keep hearing about constant cost-cutting, endless WFRs, hiring freeze, and rumors of no raises, I think leadership owes us transparency on the motive and expected benefits. This really makes me sick to my stomach and I cannot be alone on this sentiment.

New strategic service offering is Xerox Marketing-as-a-Service, has the CMO gone mad ?

I’ve seen it all now.

Xerox has probably been one of the worst businesses for the use of marketing, yet the new CMO thinks they can ‘sell’ their marketing skills to partners.

Who on earth would pay Xerox for this.

Typical of this individual

Why pay for what Xerox would give you for free anyway. If you are a partner they already provide ‘marketing’ in product support and Partner Sales.
