Question for those in the know, since clearly there are some here. Obviously you get a better deal if you're laid off as far as unemployment goes. Last time Phase 1 people had to share in middle of September if they were staying or going. Then layoffs occurred the end of October. Repeat this time?

What documents should I be backing up before the layoff?
So far I did a recent paystub, W2 and my performance review from FY25. Was debating sending my entire teams code too so I can reference it in the future.
Bye Lousy Job
I never realized how hard the hours worked and weekend on calls were… not for me but my wife. She is fortunate enough to have a job that is pretty much 8-4 everyday.
She never complained when, during the lockdown, about the times I was at my home office desk and she had to bring me a plate of food for dinner. It seems I was never on time for an afterwork appt or meeting. I’ll never forget the time that I was nearly fired for not taking an on-call weekend because my sister was getting married. The boss knew about this four months in advance.
On my last day, a Saturday, I promised to be home on time. And I was. She met me at the door dressed like we were going to a fancy restaurant. She hugged me being careful not o muss her makeup (An inside joke) the scent of her perfume was soon taking a backseat to another of my favorite aromas. She had spent the day making my favorite dish, lasagna with home baked bread and carrot cake for dessert.
I started a new Job a month later. Lower pay, but better hours. That following Saturday I made her favorite dinner.
It’s funny, but it took a layoff to get me to realize what a lousy job I had but more importantly, what a lucky man I am to have such a wife.

Could we get to a point where severance is not offered?
I learned recently severance was not legally mandated. I honestly thought it was, because, why would they pay us to leave if they didn't have to? So now I can't get that out of my head and wonder what if they really decide that severance is not something they want to bother with?

Find the nearest exit NOW
I know the conventional wisdom is to wait it out and force the company to pay you in severance. But, they'll try to deny it to you by every means they have. You just have to ask yourself one question. Is it worth it?
You'll be faced with a ticking clock of the severance checks stopping while you job hunt. No getting away from that.
Just start looking now and taking interviews with sick days or doctor's appointments and then just...leave. No two weeks' notice. No exit interview. Just tell them you quit and walk out. You don't owe them anything at all.
You'll feel great! You'll be leaving this lousy job and starting new one. No better feeling in the world. Better than waiting around in the stress test lab wondering when your number is up.
They are actively trying to exploit you in every conceivable way.
Just. Leave. Now.
If you're on a PIP, pack your bags.
Anyone on a PIP will be gone by no later than March 31st. Anyone receiving a FY25 employee review lower than "Successfully Meets Expectations" will also be gone.
“Internal” vs “external”
I applied for a job during my 30 day post lay off, when I was still “internal”. I was in screening status and spoke with manager and was moving forward. Then my last official day came. Now I’m “external”. I just found out that this job isn’t hiring external applicants and can’t move forward. The recruiter supposedly tried to get approval. Not sure who or what is behind all these decisions but none of it makes sense.

Any changes or layoffs happening in April?
when it will be informed?

Residual feelings
It has been 20 years since my lay-off and I still have flashes of absolute rage. Does anybody else feel like this? I don’t want to give the people who selected me (it WAS personal) any power over me, but I genuinely felt trapped and vilified by my manager. And also the mean people from Compaq who seemed to have it out for me from the outset.
