Kruger’s op-ed in the Calgary Herald today is so full of bull $hit I felt like I was in a feedlot outside Brooks.
Great Place To Work
Imagine the Great-Place-To-Work score since Kruger took the reins.
End of WFH
How are you interpreting the new WFH policy announced this morning? Full return to office but "maintaining flexibility" whatever that means...
Round One
So I was released as part of Round One. An easy cut since I had been at Suncor under five years. Suncor was not the highlight of my career working for major oil companies. But what burns me the most is that my Director saved an ethnic minority... — read more
What is the Juice on round 2
what have you heard
Round Two
Round two starts next week and layoffs will occur every week through the beginning of November.
Suncor RSU Policy
When I hired on to Suncor, HR had very strict policies regarding vacation and benefits. Times were lean so I accepted their low-ball offer on the basis of earning $50K in RSUs every year. Well guess what? Kruger’s ‘Workforce Reduction’ ended that... — read more
The big re-org?
Hearing a re-org is happening to reduce layers in the organization and lean things out. Anyone know when this will happen or if there is truth? Still 1000 positions left to eliminate to get to the 1500 reductions.
Suncor’s Failed Energy Transition Plan
Renewable diesel and jet (what other smart integrated oil companies are doing) is an energy transition plan that is fuel based. They’re complimenting their current portfolio. Suncor’s energy transition plan comprised of wind power, solar power, and... — read more
Boycott Petro-Canada
The new CEO stated he is moving the company away from energy transition. I suggest everyone boycott Petro-Canada. Fuel up at Esso or Co-op both of which have announced plans for renewable diesel plants. Who’s with me?
New execs
How do you all feel about suffering layoffs while poaching Imperial's execs?

Round Two - August 16th
The next round will be on August 16, 2023. Primarily R&L support staff that are Calgary based.
Round Two - Deeper Cuts
Round One included the ‘low hanging fruit’ such as relatively short-term employees. The severance offered to them was generous but relatively low given their short tenure. Round Two will be deeper. It will include departments not directly involved... — read more
Latest return to office rumors
Was expecting an announcement on the Aug 8th call but with that cancelled, let's all post what we've heard. Personally I've heard nothing cause no one tells me sh-t. So spill the tea.
Severance packages
I’m hearing that folks are being offered a salary continuance and that stops if you find new employment. Is there any portion of the package that’s lump sum or is it all monthly payments so long as you’re unemployed? Has an employment lawyer weighed... — read more
Same Work - Less People
Rich Kruger had stated that this wasn’t about less people doing same work but about removing work that we should not be doing. Well that is not the case in my department and in others around me. Management laid off the low-hanging fruit and... — read more
Layoffs are a Fact of Life
The first time I was laid off in this industry was July 26, 1989. The last time was July 18, 2023. Why would anyone graduating from post-secondary (no matter the field) enter this industry? My children certainly will not.
What is an “Advisor” ?
Rich Kruger has his eye set on low value work. What does an “Advisor” actually do anyways? Would we miss them? What about all those “Energy Transition” people? Or “Development Leads”? There is a lot of fat to trim.
WFH to end
Layoffs occur Monday through Thursday and will continue. Kruger set to announce end of work-from-home during Employee Call on August 8th. More attrition following that announcement. Packages are not great. One continues to receive monthly payments... — read more
I will not RTO
I will not go backward. I'm more productive from home because I'm happier working like this and I usually spend at least some of the time I'd have spent commuting on work. Suncor gets much more out of me like this. If they want to fire me for... — read more
More cuts to come?
Does anyone have more insights on this because I'm very worried about the rumors I'm hearing. As if the company has not cut more than enough people so far....
Ransomware attack today?
heh.. word from some friends in IT is that we were hacked today by a major ransomware event.
Were cuts necessary??
I am somewhat surprised that some people think that these cuts were very necessary because there are many people here who do almost nothing all day long. You really think we needed these cuts???
First round of lay offs
Around 150 SCM staff and contractors were laid off today. Any information about when the next lay offs will be ?
How long before we know?
How long will it take before we know any details on the coming layoffs? I would prefer for it to happen as soon as possible instead of having it dragged out over several weeks. I'd like to minimize the amount of stress I'm about to go through, thank... — read more
When will cuts start?
I believe we've all accepted that there will be cuts, so I'm now more interested in when. From what I understand, some areas have already lost some people, so I'm going to assume it's going to happen sooner rather than later. Is there anybody who... — read more

I’ll just leave this here https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/new-ceo-canadas-suncor-energy-aims-cut-costs-simplify-operations-2023-05-09/
What are all these managers doing?
Half of the managers could be cut without anyone even noticing.
Mission 5 layoffs
It’s happening people. Many engineers have been terminated. All the best…
HYBRID WORK ENVIRONMENT TO END IN JANUARY
On the call, HR Paul mentioned there is a list of employees who have not returned to the office. HR is getting ready to end work-from-home in January.
** If you want to punch the clock and go nowhere for 30 years, Suncor is the place.
You're unlikely to be too stressed, because everything moves at a snail's pace and there's really no repercussions for being wrong.
What's happening with layoffs?
There were supposed to be cuts yesterday, did that happen?
10% layoffs coming
G&A costs too high. Citing focus on more profitability, recession concerns and investor concerns on debt amid inflationary environment despite high profits due to current high oil prices.
Big day
Oil price is dropping. Gas prices are going up. I hope there shouldn't be many surprises with earnings results?

Sounds like fun
