I will not go backward. I'm more productive from home because I'm happier working like this and I usually spend at least some of the time I'd have spent commuting on work. Suncor gets much more out of me like this. If they want to fire me for refusing to RTO, so be it. That's the risk I'm willing to take.

During a round of recent layoffs, where everyone being let go was "working from home" and the staff were being 'cold called' to get their notice. More then 60% of THOSE staff were not actually near enough to their laptop to receive their call. We ended up having to call them on their cell phone. They all had all kinds of excuses for not being at home with their laptop. So based on that, yeah.... working from home isn't a real thing. Most staff are not actually doing much work at 'home'.
I don't work at your place but I'm also in a job where I'm remote all but 2 days per month (I'd love to skip even those if given the chance). I just wanted to drop a comment because, based on the information I've been absorbing, the US economy is looking like it's heading into a nasty Fall season. I'm old enough to have gone through Y2K (in tech) and 2008 and what I'm doing to prep now is to just do whatever ridiculous, stupid thing is asked of me. More days in the office? Sure! More stupid status reports? You got it! I take my annual salary and figure out what an hour of my time is worth, and just remind myself that I'm still getting paid that, no matter what d-mb thing or useless meeting I'm sitting through. For me, it's all about getting ready to pass through this storm and stashing some extra $ in an account now in case things do get bad. If nothing happens, then in Spring, I apply for a new job and take the extra cash to pay down the mortgage a bit more. But at least I've got options.
So...maybe just look at RTO in context of the times, and then decide.
