Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Round One

So I was released as part of Round One. An easy cut since I had been at Suncor under five years. Suncor was not the highlight of my career working for major oil companies. But what burns me the most is that my Director saved an ethnic minority over me despite him being d-mb as a post.

I already have new opportunities on the horizon so economically I don’t care. Just shake my head at the bureaucratic/ incompetence at Suncor.

That other person might be spared for multitude of reasons including being at their right place right time, knowing someone, having affairs with managers, have some unique skills, etc etc, not just their ethnicity. The fact that you just jumped into that conclusion showing your true colour

Thanks be to Allah I have kept my position in downstream. But I am concerned. With the return to five-days-a-week I am no longer able to creep in late or go AWOL. And with the loss of my colleagues I have no one to rely upon when I am over my head. But my Director loves diversity so I Just need to make it past December and I remain safe.

Suncor is full of politically correct individuals but oil extraction and refining is a technical industry. Perhaps this is one of the root causes behind the poor safety record at Suncor?

For this, Suncor is better than Imperial. Imperial predominantly laid off non-white people. The whole company is racist. At least Suncor got rid of a racist person like you.

Is it truly the individual kept because of their ethnicity? Or could it be that The OP overestimated their value? Happen more often than we want to admit...

The more racists will be let go from Suncor the better. That being said Suncor tries to be nice on paper and hires all kinds of “diversity” even those who have no skills. At the end of the day it’s a public company not a “social enterprise “

@eex+1ouw07L2 missed the point of the post. Apparently political correctness trumps competence at Suncor. Oilsands & refining is a technical industry. Heaven help the front line workers at the facilities due to decisions such as this.

Sounds like they made the right call. You can be upset over losing your job but there’s no need to be racist.
