Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Happy Thanksgiving

I am thankful that my layoff came in July. I spent time with the family when the weather was nice before school started up again in September. Now that fall has arrived, I have time to complete some yard work as I start my transition program with LHH. Looking forward not backward.

I was also let go in July after over 20 years of service.
I agree. I enjoyed my summer and feel like I have been set free.
It was an unexpected blow, but life is full of surprises.

Suncor is NOT a good company. It’s bloated, out of touch and deadly. These layoffs won’t make their aging death trap work sites any safer.

It’s sufficient to look at org chart and see a number of inefficiencies in terms of org effectiveness. Suncor has become such a “red tape” company. It’s unbelievable. Hiring practices are completely corrupt. HR must be completely changed from top to bottom.

The final round @2ym+1oYgP0xZ should be GMs, Directors, Sr. Managers, Managers, etc. Suncor does not need leaders overseeing teams that were cut in half. I know of one team where an Operations Manager has only one report. His GM has only three reports after the round in September (including that OM), Otherwise the company remains top heavy.

Thank you @2ym+1oYgP0xZ. That was my experience with Suncor but I have moved past my Suncor tenure. I shake my head on how management makes decisions. Too much emphasis on ADEM and authoring WEGs. Not enough emphasis on economics. A strange strange employer !!

It’s always painful when you get laid off and you know that there are a bunch of useless people staying and not contributing . This is what Suncor has become in last few years. They need to look and get rid of bunch of managers, accountants, IT folks who spend hours on power BI graphs.
