How is perm position lower pay than contractor role

I’ve been working in my position as a contractor for several months and was finally offered a permanent position with UHG. However, the offer pay is lower than the start pay I received at the beginning of my contract. Like drastically lower to the point I don’t want to accept the permanent position at all. Trying to figure out my options but this is frustrating.

Did Oracle lay off support for their Linux business?

I opened a ticket on late Wed, as of now, still no support engineer to chat me, the guy I chatted with said someone would be with me in 10-15min, but no one even after 5h, fu-k him, I am working for a company who probably pay $500M to Oracle per year, this is really sh-t!

I wish people would stop hating on Exxon so much

Is it ideal? No. Is it better than a lot of places right now? Yes. If you've taken half an hour of your day to brows available jobs, you'd know how cr-ppy the job market is right now. Having a relatively safe job with a decent pay at this moment is more than many others have. As I said, this place is far from perfect, but let's get some perspective.

What’s going on in Permian drilling?

Outsider looking in, little odd they’ve had a posting for a position, it disappeared and then less than a week later another is posted. Context being always rumors of a less than stable group over there and some toxic management… had considered applying, but now I’m curious about morale. Anyone know how pay is? Low relative to midland based peers, but still passable?Thoughts?

Attrition

Lots of major names have left the company, and people continue to leave. Probably a combination of the upper management culture (nepotism much…), LT mindset around optimizing and running as lean as possible, and the profit sharing changes which apparently we claimed “entitlement” to and did not work for. And really bad base pay relative to general industry. What do you think?

I have never worked so hard for so little reward

The least they can do is make the last few standing feel appreciated for keeping the fort held down. They lay people off, they don’t replace. People retire, they don’t replace. Someone on disability? Oh well pick up the slack or you’re next. As I’m working harder and harder I’m thinking to myself how long can this keep going? I mean my paycheck is getting eating by inflation yet I’m working 3x as hard for the same pay while my supervisor takes care of his personal errands during work hours. God only knows what the AD is doing. Never in my life have I been so disappointed by a company. Will we lose all of our employees or our customers first? Only time will tell.

Tribune Workers Approve Initial Labor Pact

The Texas Tribune's unionized employees approved their first labor agreement. This deal was finalized after two years of discussions. It guarantees pay increases for all staff and sets minimum salaries. Rules for artificial intelligence use are also included. The agreement provides layoff safeguards and secures existing benefits.

Two problems that keep salaries unfair

I have been thinking about why pay is so broken both in our industry and at DXC, and I keep coming back to two issues. First, companies treat hiring as a cost to be minimized rather than an investment in talent. Second, nobody knows what anyone else is actually making, so we are all just guessing at what fair pay looks like.

Net Pay

Is anyone in Southern California still working for under $5,000 net a month with this level of stress? McDonald’s is paying close to $4k here. Are people really still staying at BofA for this?

2 years termination pay

According to all the wise writers here, who say the company will never pay out the up to two years termination pay to union workers, I don't ever have to worry about being laid off like non-union employees have to worry about every day. This is just another reason it's better to be union than not. BTW if I am laid off, I get 2 years pay while my manager only gets up to 6 months pay.

R2B had a status update, less money more work

R2Bs meeting was lack luster. They want them going door to door 5-6 hours a day and only increased at risk by less than $500 a month. They did not increase base pay or offer a vehicle stipend.

Business Sales On Demand will be a big failure for Verizon and Verizon Business will keep taking the blame for lack of performance. I would caution business owners to stay away from Verizon Business till they find themselves, if ever, again.

WE WON!!!

WFH PSC, PSC, RETAIL ORANGE CONTRACT IS ALMOST DONE , AND SHOULD BE SIGNED BY MAY 22nd! THE TOWN HALL MEETING WITH THE UNION WAS GREAT, SO MANY INCREASES IN PAY, BENEFITS, AND BONUSES! WFH IS SECURED UNTIL 2030! AT&T APPRECIATES ITS WORKERS! THANK YOU SO MUCH TELECOM GIANT!

On a major project, interviewing externally. What to do when I receive an offer?

Hi all, I am still pretty early in my career (4 yrs of experience) but I am on some major projects within my team and I am the only person who knows how to do certain things or navigate certain systems. I asked for plan on a pay raise mid last year since I am on 6-8 projects at a time and deliver quality every time plus efficiency gains, and it’s been crickets whenever I follow up. They only gave me a 5/5 on the review and 3% raise with a sh---y bonus. I know I’m worth more than that.

I am interviewing for different roles externally that will pay me 30-40% more and have a good feeling that I will receive an offer soon. Only problem for me is that I am not sure what to do when it comes to giving my 2 weeks notice. I really enjoy my colleagues and don’t want to put them in a rough spot because we are already stretched thin as a team. I want to prep in advance but find little time to document everything I do in its entirety to help with the transition for my teammates.

How would you navigate this situation? I am definitely taking a new job offer externally and not staying here since it’s left a bad taste in my mouth.

Palm Beach Schools Approve Teacher Pay Raise Amid Layoff Warnings

The Palm Beach County School Board approved a 3.5% pay raise for teachers. This decision followed months of negotiations with the Classroom Teachers Association. The district warned 250 employees could face layoffs to balance the budget. These cuts may affect teachers, administrators, and office assistants. The teachers union must still ratify the agreement for it to become final.

Employees leaving service

Service appears to have taken a backseat with gehc. Management plays the "metrics" game to justify low employment numbers. Even going as far as wanting a .9 FTE which is absurd for field service.

Any prior fe's experience this in their region?

Experianced Field guys are leaving for better pay and less expected OT.
