When you leave, who can read your emails?

I was laid off a couple of month's ago.
Out of curiosity, I sent a test email to my old address to see what happened. There was no bounce back reply from the server.
Does that mean my mailbox is still active and someone like my old boss has control of it now?

In most companies when you get surplussed one reason overrides others.

I've been in "corporate america" long enough to understand that the decision to surplus you often goes beyond just performance or willingness to improve, it often hinges on the fact if your supervisor or leadership chain like you. If they don't like you or you're always seeming to cause a problem, you're likely one of the first to be selected.

One year later, I'm glad they cut me

It’s been exactly one year since my short meeting that ended my time at USAA. I stopped by here to see how things are going, and all I can say is I feel bad for everyone still stuck there. Even when I left, getting work done was already a nightmare, and from what I can see, it’s only gotten worse since then. If you can, I’d seriously suggest trying to leave. My layoff ended up being exactly what I needed to get out of a toxic place and find something where I don’t dread even the thought of work.

How long after layoff are you paid?

Question for those of you who have been impacted by a layoff recently: I understand that you receive a call/ meeting with HR and you are separated that day. How long after that date did you receive your regular pay (not any severance)? Also, how long did benefits continue, specifically health insurance? Thanks!

are layoffs effective immediate?

For the ones being affected by the LR, are they making it immediate, or did they give you a near future end date? i remember for some of the previous layofss they gave a long notice before the end date; also people from my team got layed off and they were around for 1-2 extra weeks

Notified and relieved

I felt down for about five minutes. Then I started looking forward to my first good weekend in God knows how long, and then to having this forsaken place in the rearview mirror. I know I'll have a hard time finding another job, but I'm going to enjoy this newfound freedom before I start worrying about that.

Rejection after rejection

I was laid off several months ago. I've gotten to the final round multiple times since then and each time, they pick someone else. The reasons are always vague and feel like excuses. My self confidence is now completely destroyed. I'm losing sleep and I feel awful. The irony is, I'd give anything to have my job back, the same one I hated for years before being cut.

What's everyone's plan B?

I've been running scenarios in my head for days. If I get laid off next week, what do I do. I have some savings, maybe two or three months worth. I could pick up some consulting work, maybe. My partner does work, but their income alone wouldn't cover everything. We could sell my car, move to a cheaper apartment, ask family for help. But none of those are good options. I'm realizing I'm not as prepared as I thought. So I'm asking genuinely, what's everyone else's plan B? Are you ready for this, or are we all just hoping we'll be spared?

Don't you just love how nonchalant he is about it?

"With this, we are making changes today that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce in Q4 by fewer than 4,000 jobs, representing less than 5 percent of our total employee base."

Basically, he's saying it's just 4k jobs, no biggie. He doesn't give a damn that so many families are about to lose their livelihood. It's less than 5 percent, so it's all good. Just a small nuisance, nothing else.

How long after being let go Does somebody disappear from teams?

There was a colleague in a different department that I worked with and anytime I look them up on teams they are still there, last seen approximately 2 months ago. I have a feeling they were let go, but wouldn't they be gone from teams by now? Maybe they are on a medical leave, which is why I don't want to ask them. Thank you
