September layoffs running total

Sep24 6am UTC - Sep25 6am UTC totals: 80 layoffs, 9 additions.
September totals (except Sep01): 5635 layoffs, and 825 additions.

I know a dev team in Pacific, which had the last day yesterday, but they are still in Slack and it is unclear why O stopped cutting access to some people. Maybe it was too easy to track layoffs. Therefore, these totals are the floor estimate.

September totals (except Sep01): 4946 layoffs, and 568 additions.

EMEA started getting invites and mass layoff process officially kicked off in some locations. However, due to labor laws it will take several weeks before specific people are cut and lose access to Slack, so Slack totals won't reflect it for a long time.

For those who remain, #watercooler and #wtf have been expunged

The two slack groups in the subject are gone as of this evening. There was a lot of posting from/about laid-off coworkers in #watercooler, while #wtf was ultimately a self-help group (with some blowing-off-steam, and good humor as well).

The death-knell has been sounded, for any semblance of life at Oracle prior to the 2025 layoffs.

I guess we get to keep #dad-jokes, a crumb left behind.

September layoff running total

Sep10 4:30am UTC - Sep11 6:30am UTC totals: 190 layoffs.
September totals (except Sep01): 4538 layoffs, and 279 additions.

I got confirmation that lay offs are ongoing in Pacific region, but in some countries they have a 2 week delay after the notice, while they still have access to Slack. Thus, there are more layoffs in reality which will catch up in these totals in couple of weeks.

September running total

Sep09 6am UTC - Sep10 5:30am UTC totals: 78 layoffs, 33 additions.
September totals (except Sep01): 4348 layoffs, and 279 additions.

I have a suspicion some locations (in Pacific region) do not cut Slack access immediately in the same way it was done for the NA prior. May be HR figured out that cutting immediately makes it too easy to track and they don't want this kind of panic and bad press.

Sep05 layoff totals

September 05, last 24h layoffs total: 187, none in American timezones.

September totals, except Sep01: 4025

Methodology: tracking #general Slack channel participants count, since typically access is cut right away and you can see it immediately in Slack.
