Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Thoughts on the employee summit?

Give it a go. What did you like or hate? What was truth and what was lies. If you were to grade them how did they do?

When I was at O, the frontline managers I had were either in another part of the US, or even in another country. Some that were in my location never or rarely came into the office physically. I understand that wfh is no longer promoted there. So funny bc wfh was going to save the Planet, give people back time spent commuting, etc etc etc. now we know that was a buncha BS.

BTW, Slack is pretty cool. Anything is better than pidgin and beehive!!

I agree. I think it is more efficient to work from home. It's also cheaper for the company.

But the problem is that people working from home are often not trusted. They are also resented by people who have to go into the office, so they are targeted by others.

It's easy to lie behind someone's back to smear their reputation, if they work from home. It's harder to protect yourself and network appropriately to keep that from happening.

You are less likely to be chosen as a manager's lackey or thug if you are working from home, so you are more likely to be targeted. Continuous rolling layoffs means that there is a list your manager is keeping of who to layoff next. You can easily be targeted if you are working from home and separated from others, regardless of how hard you work.

maybe...maybe not. It doesn't change the fact that that there is almost no reason to go to an "office" anymore. Unless your job requires you to put your "hands on" something (besides your secretary), you should work remotely. Everyone in high tech should be working from home. Anything else is wasteful.

People who work from home are being targeted for layoffs. They don't count towards the WARN notice.

It was a complete waste of time. What was with all that "teleporting" nonsense? It looked like they were addressing a group of middle school kids with that drivel.

Instead of opening a 560,000 sq ft "hub" in Austin, Oracle should save all that money and have more people work from home. At least that helps the environment, lowers stress, reduces waste, and lessens traffic and pollution. Office buildings and "hubs" and not the workplace of the future.

Who's that French guy who spoke first? How's TK's talk? And who's that guy sitting with LE?

I remember the first Global Employee Summit last year... trying to keep the younger staff at Oracle. All the while planning layoff after layoff. If you notice on this layoff site, the good companies don't layoff their resources -- they 'embrace' their employees.

It was great to see the Brass show up in Texas, but over all, it was very condescending. Millennials are not stupid. Playing the Nelson Mandela card was over the top.

"It sure was funny watching MH & SC act like Millennials though!"

So much for the MH has cancer and one foot in the grave rumors. The nonsense that gets posted here is hilarious.

Different from last year - that one seemed mostly about happy, smiling, kool-aid-drinking talking heads having a great time working for O. I found that very hard to relate to. This year the focus seemed to be more on customers doing great things. Pitch was that they were doing great things entirely because of O. My feeling was that the great things were because of great ideas. For whatever reason, O was chosen as the infrastructure to implement the idea. Kinda like the building tools & supplies shop taking credit for the beautiful house. (And making the claim that it couldn't have been done without us.) Luckily I kept getting interrupted so I didn't have to drink this year's juice all in one serving.

To those who say it was rubbish, a waste, etc. they weren’t talking to you. They were talking directly to Millennials and younger. Each exec drove home a certain Millennial meme. And modern buzzwords were flying.

It sure was funny watching MH & SC act like Millennials though!

I thought they did a good job in many ways of selling Oracle as a cool place to work for Millennials and beyond. Of course they have to as we look like IBM !!

But the reality is of course different and many a pint of kool aid was to be had that day,

Plus this will NOT affect most folks working day.

Not many old folks there either :-)

#slack....what’s the deal with the new collab app? All Oracle employees are slackers now?

Never get to the real issues and how we are addressing them. This is the dog and pony show.
