The Big Beautiful Ballroom

Anyone who was laid off yesterday and desperately wanted to sell their houses, I’m here. Price won’t be great but at least for your financial emergency. Don’t thumb this down! This is reality, face iand accept it.

So, given what happened yesterday, how impacted was AWS, particularly the actual techs who worked there?
Are layoffs going to continue throughout the week?
Allegedly half, around 7,500 people, were notified yesterday. Are they aiming for 14,000 total in this round, or will it continue in January?

How is the Working From Home Movement working for you?
Congrats to all those who wanted to force employers to let you work from home. This mass layoff is not only caused by that, but certainly employers know they want the upper hand. Very naive from employees when you wanted to demand work from home... — read more
Reminder
Let this serve as a stark reminder: capitalism, as it exists today, tethered to public markets that demand perpetual growth, is deeply flawed. Amazon, like any publicly traded company, must show quarter over quarter gains. One of the easiest ways to... — read more

Vesting
The big vesting is in November, and it will be paid in full. This is the last large vest for those of us who were here during the 2022 crash when they topped us up. Going forward vesting is quarterly. It is much smaller because I used a much... — read more

Amazon should be added to the home page of thelayoff.com
They deserve it.
I wish they’d stop using the AI excuse
The vast majority of jobs lost today are just going offshore. And some of the work will be dumped on the people who remain, flooding them even more.
Layoffs Comminicated
Have all the communications been shared with those affected by today’s layoffs?
What about the other 16000 layoffs?
So 14000 is only 4% of corporate. 27000 was in fact the largest in history. And there are so many redundant layers of management still.
14000 Layoffs Confirmed

How long might this round of layoffs last?

Maybe the cut is H1B focused?
It'd be an interesting development.
Can you be laid off while on Focus?
Any thoughts?
6-day RTO is coming
If you are working 7 days a week, your RTO will be 7. It's a simple formula, 6 days in office for everyone exept for the folks who work all 7 days, they will be coming in 7 days, we'll call that Full-RTO.
Any idea how much severance will be
