Univs are so bloated that they want International Students who pay a lot of money. Now Univs too want H1B, coz if H1B and CPT/OPT are nixed student population will go down. Two decades ago, the students who came to USA for Education were top 5 to 7% in their class. now, anyone with a bank loan can come, and to any low ranked Univ. Even Community Colleges and Univ extension evening programs offer F1 Visas - the cake in the F1 visa is the 3 year OPT work permit, by 3 years they will convert F1 to H1B, or, get an M.S. thro many online programs and up their lottery chances by classifying themselves are being critically needed for the country .
Students working OPT through F1 Visas do not even pay the same taxes as what the USA Grads pay! Congress won't fix the mess. They are more focused on supporting illegal immigrants. Most public Univs give in-state seats to first-gen and low-income kids. Taxpayer kids are at the mercy of out-of-state Univs. We the people are doomed.
There is a legit need for H1Bs in some roles. But for every genuine h1B, there are five that are jobs that could have gone to people who grew up here in USA.
H1B engineers are exempt. have been remote for 3 years and get bored watching Netflix and Spuul. mgr says signing bonus still $50k for IIT grads. Love AMZN!!!

Third generation military here (Army). My son in law is an H1B at Amazon. Feeds my American grandchildren, reasonable possibility one my grandchildren will be 4th generation military. His taxes also fund our military among many other social services.
@aa STFU and come off your high horse. Amazon operates across the globe and people from across the globe WILL work here. If you don't want H1Bs, get the fu-k out of their country, bet that'll be easy. Dum--ss.
All foreign visas must stop right now. It includes allowing students coming to the universities and taking jobs. That are lot of people with experience, willing, proven, and motivated to work who are ready to take new AI jobs. Call your congressmen/woman and tell them to stop wasting their time in shutdowns and non sense.
@OP Amazon should NOT be allowed to hire anyone on a visa if they are doing this mass layoffs.
Just One H-1B, rest are all US Citizens worked for Corporate (Remote/Hybrid).
Company is planning to hire cheap labor on H-1B, L1, J1, O1, E2 visa categories starting in January 2026.
