RTO NYC

Am I the only one thinking about this? Is anyone else concerned we have to go into the office every single day… in time square…. After ellisons buddy Trump started a war with Iran….. commute in the busy subways to the office IN TIME SQUARE…. so now on top off thinking about layoffs survival I have to think about ACTUALLY surviving life just to get to work where I don’t actually have to sit in the office to do my job? Anyone else?

NYC Band 8 technology and planning

AD and SD called, 6 years with VZ. Was recently moved to a new group and was working with senior engineers. Promoted very early on in my tenure, great performance reviews. Didn’t matter they basically said my functions can be done by people in India. Kind of liberating but disappointing at the same time. I just had my first child 6 months ago. I don’t blame current leadership although he was on the board. The stock price su-ked for a decade under Hans, but all we heard was glowing results.

Even more cuts

The layoffs, which were first reported by Crain’s New York, were disclosed in a filing with the New York State Department of Labor. In total, 660 employees are being laid off by Amazon across nine offices in New York City.

Illegal sick time practices at WF

How does WF get away with these practices of reducing PTO hours for usage of sick time?

In NYC, the following law applies: “NYC's sick leave law, the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act (ESSTA), requires employers to provide paid time off for various reasons, including personal or family illness, medical appointments, and absences due to public health emergencies or domestic violence. The amount of paid leave depends on employer size, with employers with 100+ employees providing up to 56 hours annually.”

However, WF’s own policy states: “If you’re a pto eligible employee, you don’t receive paid sick time in addition to your paid time off allowance. Instead your pto can be used for reasons covered under the sick time law to provide pay and job protection. Using sick time in workday decreases your pto balance by reducing those requested hours from your monthly pto accrual.”

Isn’t this illegal?

So remote folks shouldn’t expect anything definitive until the dust settles?

I’ve heard so many different versions, and it’s honestly confusing. From what I can tell, there’s still nothing final. Unfortunately, it sounds like the uncertainty for remotes will drag on a bit longer, especially for those who don’t neatly fit into the LA or NYC setups. Do we know if we could still get caught in this round, or are we considered a separate case altogether?

Lenox Hill Hospital Layoffs

Lenox Hill Hospital, part of Northwell Health, plans to lay off more than 30 EMTs and paramedics within about 30 days while scaling back its ambulance fleet. Three units that currently handle 911 calls from West 72nd Street through Washington Heights will be removed, which frontline staff warn could mean longer response times. Five ambulances will remain in service, focused on Harlem and the Upper East Side.

The hospital says the cuts follow a strategic reassessment within the FDNY’s broader EMS network and aim to streamline operations. The move comes amid citywide financial strain on hospitals and warnings that New York’s healthcare system could lose about 8 billion dollars annually under new federal policies. Advocates and labor groups say reducing hospital based ambulances will add pressure to an already stretched 911 system. Northwell implemented similar reductions in Queens and Staten Island last year, and new city rules that direct patients to the nearest hospital may also be influencing deployment plans.

Evaluated Pricing LSEG- do not apply

I have been working for this group for some time. Just recently I decided to look for another job and I have to say that most of the things said in these threads are true. Just a few facts:

  • in 2018 almost 50 % of the staff was layoff and the roles moved to Costa Rica.
  • 4 years of the Costa Rica office open showed many clients that the quality has decreased and employees there are not going to be able to take complex tasks. Between closed doors everybody talks about the lack of professionalism in Costa Rica, poor work ethic and the preferential treatment they receive.
  • The group used to have top talent across all levels. In 2021 the Muni Manager left, excellent professional with years of experience in Wall Street and Bloomberg. Shortly after two other senior managers left, one a former executive from JP Morgan and MIT educated. Then another raising start from an Ivy League left after being groomed for almost a decade.
  • The biggest problem with the group is the longevity of one of the Directors who is the architect of the moves to Costa Rica and Fort Mills. He has multiple HR complains and no one trusts what he says.
  • Another problem is the influence the former head has on this group. She has to make sure her decisions are protected and she push for a weak replacement who is a yes man. He is never in the office, and during his tenure many people has resigned.
  • People keep quitting. A few people a month.
  • Just 2 weeks ago 2 more resignations - and these two were recently promoted.
  • Salaries are very low, check the comparisons against competitors (base)

What is happening: A layoff in NYC is coming and Fort Mills will be the new center. That happened in 2018. A couple of roles opened in Costa Rica and then a massive layoff.

The weaker the staff the more power the director has. The more needed he is. Not too hard to understand.
