Big layoffs on Wednesday this week

The 25% reduction in headcount from the BD acquisition is coming. Wednesday is going to be brutal. Expect across all functions, all segments, but especially ADx. R&D likely to be hit especially hard. Lawyer/HR was onsite in Sparks for a reason - upper leadership has been discussing the reorg all this past week at the Sparks location. Anyone with direct subordinates being let go were informed this past week as well. Waters is not BD - they are breezing through letting people go for cause as well as layoffs. If your leadership team does not like you, expect to be let go sooner rather than later. Happy holiday weekend, everyone!

My Career Story

Rumor has it that leadership and HR are pushing for people to have the Career Story section filled out in MyGPS.
Given very recent RIFs and restructured, this feels very unsettling. Anyone here experiencing this and/or have an insight to why this is?

Useless company to work for. FIS vs META

Meta management was so professional in reducing workforce.

Direct RIFs. No Cognizant kind of gimmicks.

Immediate termination. No KT required.

FIS management is playing games with employees.. some given severance, some transferred to Cognizant to be eventually riffed.

Realizing that a lot of management considered employees are so clueless self removerd

Besides people in positions considered management are very clueless.I mean this is contractor type ,engineering type,Actual managers.First all you need to see on here is employees who barely go to office or interact with anyone asking if there’s gonna be a strike still. Then you go in asking actually direct managers at all levels questions but they cannot answer anything. Then there is the group that won’t answer or make any decisions at all because they are either clueless or scared. My God company is such a disaster.Bad cell coverage losing customers left and right in all lines of business.I am glad I am at the end of it all ,I am also glad that I was never management as bad as the Union contracts may get over the years at least I can say as associates we have a clue starting to think the people in field are only ones floating the company anymore.Just rif all nonunion employees at this point let AI be my managers

RIF

Many got RIF notice today. I hope you land in a better place. It’s scary watching people with same job title disappear but nothing worse than experiencing it.

What’s next for EMEA then?

I’ve seen quite a few people leaving from the UK offices across different departments — some went mid-May, others are due to ship out end of May. It was a mix of VBGs and the rest, probably around the 100 mark all in.
Heard the RIFs are pretty much done in the smaller spots like Spain. Italy got notified as well but they’ve got that 75 day consultation period to go through. Not sure what’s happening with France and Belgium, they’re pretty small outfits anyway.
Germany’s probably next in line for another 100 heads, seeing as they’ve got nearly 300 over there. There was some chat about selling off Professional Services and Security to a partner, but I’ve got no proper intel on that.
Anyone know any more?

It Was my Final Day – The Bard of Verizon

I wrote this poem when I got made redundant from Verizon in November 2015. Still relevant today.

It Was my Final Day – The Bard of Verizon

It was my final day.
I looked around the office.
At all the empty desks.
I could tell.
The building was now an empty shell.

Where is everyone ?
Tom, Di-k and Harry my good friends all now gone.
I wondered if ?
Just like me they had been hit by a RIF.
I shake my head in disbelief and want to cry
That must be the reason why.

Meanwhile at Verizon HQ.
Fran Shamo's latest financial report was sadly nothing new.
We must do something radical to improve our profit margins as they are still down
He said with a frown.

The board racked their brains for hours.
And even more hours.
Until Lowell McAdam jumped to his feet he had a brainwave.
"Eureka I have the perfect plan.”
"That's why I am the top man."
“How about if..."
"We have another RIF ?"

There was whooping, smiling, laughter and high fives all round.
The company’s profits would soon rise a solution had been found.
Lowell McAdam then said "Ring The Bell for a job well done we deserve some praise."
"Let's also award ourselves a well deserved 20% pay raise."

The board couldn't care less.
If the RIF made their minions lives a mess.
The poor Verizon staff.
Unlike their leaders could neither smile or a laugh.

Once they were many now they are just too few.
Lowell McAdam's grand plan would give them all more stress and work they could do without.
That much they knew.

Their future is not going to be that bright.
All doom and gloom probably describes it just about right.
And yes they work under a cloud constantly worrying if ?
They are going to be a casualty of yet another Verizon RIF.

Before the Hammer Falls on Wednesday: A Reality Check

Heading into the weekend, reading through these comments is either giving me a migraine or a comedy special. Let’s get real: layoffs are completely out of our control. Personally, I’m already buried in work so deep that the Hubble telescope couldn't find me. And if anyone is about to ask about moving at "3x velocity"—I've already been doing that since the last RIF, and frankly, I'm currently moving faster than the atmospheric entry of the recent Artemis mission.
Sitting here spiraling won't change who gets the short end of the stick. Go touch some grass, enjoy your weekend, and actually disconnect.
I say this as a seasoned survivor of multiple RIFs. Honestly? Every single one of them ended up being a blessing. It either pushed me into a better position, or it finally forced the company to clear out the dead weight, the Olympic-level smooth talkers, and the professional "delegators" who haven't touched actual work since the Obama administration.
Control what you can control. For everything else, log off and pour a drink—we’ll see who survives the snap on Wednesday morning, May 20.

Northeast Switch Techs forced into VZB

51 switch positions in the NorthEast are being forced into the union. Supposedly those people will have to bid for their current positions. This eliminates the need for current VZB techs to have to go to the switch locations for work.
Rumors have it that current VZB techs can bid on those positions as well, thus having those VZW techs to end up RIFd

Any day now

Waiting any day now to get the call to be RIF.

That’s all I want. Come on DO bring over more failed Frontier people. What’s holding you back DO?

Wellness Day?

GP Used to have a wellness day that would be announced mid-May and we could take it during the last week or so of June. the day wasn't included in the normal pto schedule since it was considered a "bonus" day
with RIF incoming, should we expect that day will be cut permanently?

RIF 2026 Q4 - 2027 Q3?

Can anyone corroborate a document I found which forecasts RIF beginning in Q4 through Q3 of next year? I don't want to give too many details but it was a full time employee forecast for one of the major support units. The decline began in Q4 with a few hundred RIFees each quarter and then a steep drop in Q3.

If you are RIF'd and money tight do this right away!

This isn't a post about rumors or Optum info, it's a post for folks that are hit by RIFs and are tight on funds. Being RIF'd is traumatic for many and in the storm one's focus could be clouded. If your money is tight and you contribute to the 401k you may want to consider immediately dropping your contribution to 0% or 1%, This will ensure your last paycheck is higher by slightly less than the amount you contribute (your tax burden will increase slightly), and even more importantly your severance check will not have whatever percentage deducted from it. Just a friendly tip for the folks get caught in the "axe the onshore web" to increase the take home.

Mandatory participation in Copilot Programs

What's everyone's thoughts on being pushed to participate in Copilot usage programs? Seems like we are being asked to train the AI before the next RIF while being offered "space exploration stickers for our logbooks" for our participation. I am not kidding.

More RIFs coming - Evaporation of F5 Culture

HR leaders are confirming the new reality. F5 is trading years of expertise for these external "strategic" hires. Long-term employees across various departments are just being phased out with no announcement or acknowledgment of what they built. Agencies are now reaching out for positions that don’t even appear vacant or aren't posted on the F5 Careers site. These roles are being backfilled by people with zero history regarding the tech or the culture. If you have high tenure, your experience is a liability now instead of an asset. "Human-First" looks great on a slide deck, but it’s taking a backseat to margin targets while the culture evaporates in real-time.

Has anyone else noticed colleagues just going silent? Is there anyone you haven't heard from in a while, even if they're still showing up in the directory?

Age?

This comment from a Fidelity spokesperson gives me pause and makes me wonder what the median age of those impact by the RIF is.

I’m 52 and was laid off last week. If you were laid off, share your age below.

“These changes are about getting the right combination of skills in place for where Fidelity is headed, including creating more room for early-career, hands-on engineering roles and streamlining senior leadership layers,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. https://www.masslive.com/business/2026/05/fidelity-to-lay-off-800-workers-but-hire-thousands-more.html

Strategy fail

Hiring new people without giving them proper training after a RIF of a hundred others. You think strategy within CenterWell would learn, suppose not. VP of this group is cold and has no grasp on the new program. She does not care about concerns and only about the agenda in hand and won’t accept feedback,

Benefit Changes next year

Hope everyone is ready. VP here from LEGACY (not Heritage) TSYS... benefits will be changing next year. Expect changes with time off packages, 401K match, hybrid work (full RTO), and substantial increase in Healthcare costs. You heard it here first.

This company is a total mess. Precisely why I am included in the next RIF in July.

Size of the list

If you’re over 40 and you were affected, you will be receiving a list of those included in the layoff and a list of those not laid off. Not with names, but with titles and characteristics. It would be interesting to hear how many associates are on your layoff list.

Here’s what should be in it:

Mandatory OWBPA Disclosure (for Employees 40+)When a reduction in force (RIF) involves two or more employees and a severance waiver is requested, employers must provide a written document containing:The Decisional Unit: A description of the specific group, class, or unit of employees that was considered for the layoff (e.g., "all employees in the Accounting Department").Selection Criteria: The eligibility factors or criteria used to determine who would be laid off and who would be retained.Job Titles and Ages (Selected): A list of the job titles and ages of every individual in that decisional unit who was selected for the RIF.Job Titles and Ages (Not Selected): A list of the ages of all individuals in the same decisional unit who were not selected for the layoff.

VZ playing with employees

If any VPs or EVP are in this form. Please please and please request Dan to do everything in one single go and stop these RIF. People's are mentally challenged everyday by listening to rumors and fake news. Be bold and if Dan requires customers to be his first priority then give employment to his beloved customers and run this company with customers and remove all employees ( Onshore and offshore)
