Asante Explains Hiring During Layoffs

Asante health system is conducting layoffs while simultaneously recruiting new staff. CEO Tom Gessel explained this dual approach in an email to staff. He stated that the jobs being eliminated differ from those being filled. Business support roles are shrinking or going away entirely. The health system is recruiting 93 doctors and other medical staff.

Hiring remote Executives

So USAA is doing corporate investigations on lower level employees for RTO, yet they keep hiring executives to be remote, how hypocritical is that? I submitted a JAR earlier today once I saw on LinkedIn the new Chief Information Security Officer is remote. My reasoning, my director is remote in San Diego, ED is remote in New York, a girl on my team remote in Hawaii, and another girl remote in New Mexico and a guy remote in Iowa. Yet I’m the only one in office (Charlotte) and I live in South Carolina, but since it’s only 58 miles and not 60, I’m told to be in office.

WAHAHRTG Copypasta Thread Request

I usually come on here for small bursts for mental health.

So we went from We are hiring and have returned to growth

To immediately calling the inbetween layoffs (that were valid) low skill.

To now saying it's only Sales, who have also had pretty high turnover.

You guys have strange lore over here. No that's magically stopping all the debt. Can yall at least collect the new ones for me? 🥺

Is it legal??!!

From HR here
And shocked with my recent experience.
Had an opening which is not a Visa sponsorship position.
Hiring manager was so mad and ended up convincing his LL4 and my boss and changed to Visa sponsorship. His LL4 and My leadership is also Indian.
Later he confessed to me saying his cousins badly need a Job who is on OPT Visa and has only 30 days, else she have to go back to India..
He even modified the resume to match the Job description..unfortunately HR hands are tight with this as no substantial evidence (except 2 different resumes)

Tech Talent Shifts to Healthcare and Manufacturing

Recent tech sector layoffs are causing a significant talent migration. Healthcare and manufacturing industries are actively absorbing these available workers. Tech-related hiring in healthcare increased by 8% compared to the previous year. Manufacturing also saw a 4% rise in tech-related hiring. Computer programmer is identified as the fastest-growing tech occupation.

ICIMS Report: AI Talent Demand Climbs Despite Tech Sector Cuts

ICIMS research indicates a growing demand for artificial intelligence talent. This trend occurs across multiple sectors, despite recent tech industry job reductions. Job openings for computer programmers and software developers increased significantly. However, the overall talent pool has not kept pace with this rising demand. Applicant volume decreased while job openings grew, creating hiring challenges.

Temps

Is anyone else’s departments still hiring temps through all of this? I know there is a hiring freeze but we have temps that just started yesterday.

Offshore is Scam! ITC doesn't want to hire experienced engineers who worked at WHQ even if they are willing to relocate.

15yrs experienced software developer from cognizant (offshore) who is working for Nike for last few years doesn't know what is github or doesn't know the meaning of commit / repository. I mean literally some resources don't know anything and i am not sure how many companies they are working at same time. They celebrate when they hear people who make them work get laid off. ITC leaders trying to build their own empire and they don't want to hire people who are talented and have worked for same company. RIP Nike Technology!

What are your thoughts on the CEO's recent email announcing a new investment to create additional roles in Ireland?

He mentioned helping clients innovate through agentic AI, trusted data infrastructure, and other technology investments. Do you see this as a positive sign of growth and future opportunities, or are you taking a wait-and-see approach?
How do you think this investment will impact employees, clients, and future hiring?

We knew it was bleak but doing the math make me even more sad...

Looking at the 146 jobs open today, only 18% are US based and 5 of those US based jobs are mariners and a pilot. We all know the reality, but seeing the actual numbers is pretty sad for a company that once prided itself on its US legacy/heritage.

Let the hunger games begin

We finally got approval for a role on the team. How am I going to pick when I sit in on interviews? The worst candidate. With the mandate that someone has to get does not meet I’m not going to help select the best candidate that might knock me into that category for future layoffs. So for people trying to transfer to a new role internally be aware that people are actively hiring fall guys.wouldn’t it be great if we could actually hire the best person so we could do good work?

Personality Hire

You all should consider it. I have never seen a more miserable (and slightly r@cist) group of people and I’m certain your charming personalities really shine at work. Have you ever considered being enjoyable to be around? If you hate Wells Fargo so much please just leave - go find something you actually enjoy! Create something new! You have free will! Layoffs happen and they su-k and I’m glad that we at least get severance - but some of yall should be fired for just being a pain in the a-s. No one will miss you when you’re gone.

Essential Industries Drive Job Growth Despite Layoffs

Layoffs have impacted specific industries like technology and media organizations. However, the broader job market continues to evolve with new demands. Demand remains strong in essential services, infrastructure development, and emerging technologies. Healthcare, artificial intelligence, skilled trades, and clean energy are key hiring sectors. This indicates a structural shift in the labor market, not a broad decline.

No rehiring per new policy

“At this time the company decision is that we are currently unable to rehire any employees that were impacted by the RIF. This could change in the future as we continue to review policy. If so, we will most certainly reach back out.”

Former manager and adjacent manager gave good feedback to HR. Hiring manager was going to make an offer and at the last minute this came through.

One of the very few good company programs

It must be out of GPS, but I really like the program where we hire people with mental disabilities to clean the kitchens throughout campus. I genuinely think it's nice even though it's not always convenient.

But I don't think we've taken this program far enough. I think as a way of turning around the company we should replace the majority of VPs and Senior directors across the company with people from this program.

Now some of you may argue that people with severe mental disabilities aren't going to be able to operate in high functioning positions like Nike vice presidents and senior directors do. But at this point I'm willing to take that bet.

H-1B VISA INVESTIGATION

Nearly 7 million visas processed since 2015

➡️ 70% from India

➡️ 12% from China

🔹 A former official told Newsweek 80-90% of applications from India involved fraudulent documents or unqualified applicants

🔹 A network of universities selling fake degrees is now under investigation with one university allegedly selling 36,000+ fake degrees

Who's Hiring?

Are there any companies out there that are worth a damn and hiring? Doesn't have to be a bank or FI, just somewhere that those of us who are Grade 12 and up might be able to take our talent, while also being paid well, given solid benefits, treated with dignity, and not put through months of radio silence or fruitless interviews?

Trust and believe, I am doing my best to hold out for the inevitable layoff and severance, but in the meantime, may as well ask.

This company has already almost cost me my life once and I'm rapidly approaching complete hopelessness. There has GOT to be something better out there, right?

...Right?

Prescreening for jobs

When did CVS start using HireVue for prescreening?
For anyone lucky enough not to know, it’s where you record yourself answering interview questions while an AI quietly judges you. Essentially a corporate Tinder.
This is a director level posting, not a role getting hundreds of entry-level applicants. I’ve been here over 20 years, and I only apply to things I actually care about—not panic-clicking “apply” at midnight. My skills were a great match for the role. I’m also not eager to risk awkwardness with my current manager just to get rejected because I didn’t maintain “optimal eye contact with my webcam.” Its a lateral move so I really need a two-way conversation with HR first to assess compatibility.
I was told it’s mandatory, so I withdrew.
Am I overreacting? Is this just the times? I get it AI is everything now but I feel certain circumstances should not be using this route to weed out candidates. Id love to hear from those who think this is a great idea because I must be missing something and some day I may very well HAVE to use it..
