Vp at Amex

Is VP at Amex equivalent of an MD at other banks like JPMC or Citi?

VP positions

What's the deal with Amex's VP position? As I understand it, VP is what's internally referred to as Band 45(maybe 50? Not sure) so VP at Amex is higher than Director (which isn't true of the big banks like JP etc.). Are the roles advertised... — read more

Too much office politics

I prefer to be focused on my work, and doing it well gives me satisfaction. I can’t deal with office politics. It’s toxic and a waste of time. I wish we had better managers who would cut that cr-p, but they are famously unsupportive while some... — read more

Business Development Manager

Has anyone been in this role that would recommend it, especially based on the current commission structure? I am highly interested but it seems like the repeated feedback is the money you are said to be making with commission is never achievable.

Opinions on a career at AMEX?

Hi. I’ve been at a financial services company for about 25 years and was sent this job on LinkedIn. Any advice on working at AMEX or these areas in general? . “This position will report to the leader of SOBA, with a dotted line directly to the... — read more

Everyone leaving because nobody leaves?

Anyone waiting for a promotion after a restructuring...big mistake. When our manager was made redundant, all of the juniors were then consolidated under a single manager. So more juniors reporting into a middle manager. How is it that Amex has a... — read more

Layoffs in Amex NYC

Amex is laying off at NYC with no proper reason. Please avoid joining here at all costs!

2024 Cuts?

With a looming recession and increased cost of borrowing and people relying on credit cards to make ends meet. I anticipate that there will be an increase in defaults. This will impact the bottom line of Amex. We can see this in bonus changes, and... — read more

Bonus change

Amex is over staffed in Platinum from the VP over hiring. Is he being held accountable? Of course not. They are cutting bonuses for reps instead. Lovely company

What I learnt working for American Express USA

It feels surreal working (now worked) for a Credit Card company...having come from a background where you were taught to get good grades, go to school and get a job that pays a measly salary to keep you well housed, fed and distracted from other... — read more

RTO Mandates are Layoffs in Disguise

Do you think Amex is so cheap that they have to resort to petty RTO mandates to reduce their workforce instead of paying out redundancies?

Forced Resignations and Forced Attrition

Hey folks, AMEX employee here. Anyone feeling like there is a forced attrition or forced resignation so that AMEX doesn't pay severance or unemployment? If you feel like leadership has turned, only way to catch them is with data points. i.e. multiple... — read more

Predicting layoffs likely in 2023

Amex committed to no layoffs during pandemic almost 3 years ago. Now back to its historical headcount high of 62K for the last 3 years as seen in link below. As the recession advances this year and cardmember spending slows this headcount number... — read more

Layoffs

Capital one is laying off employees cutting depts by 50% in zoom meetings?! With a recession upon us, is anyone hearing any talk on our end? It’s giving me anxiety worrying about job security every day. This reminds me of 2009.

AmEx Hiring 1000's of positions

What do you current Amex folks think about the recent announcement to hire a bunch of tech people? I worked at Amex many years ago, well before Ravi, Squeri and a few other CIOs were there. I think Glen was the CIO when I left.

While I am very grateful for the excellent severance package, I am resentful that at least on my team the layoffs were all among older, tenured

American Express has been layoff-crazed since the early 90s. It is the singular go-to for cost savings by an old school, unimaginative leadership team. I worked there for over 30 years before getting laid off as one if 1500 in early 2020. While I am... — read more

Is there anything new?

It’s not worth being productive...

No logic behind these layoffs

Why get rid of so many of the best employees? People with the most knowhow and experience? People who it will take at least two others to replace? So many who were cut didn't deserve it while some of the constant underperformers are still here. Can... — read more
