Too much office politics

I prefer to be focused on my work, and doing it well gives me satisfaction. I can’t deal with office politics. It’s toxic and a waste of time. I wish we had better managers who would cut that cr-p, but they are famously unsupportive while some outright enjoy being a part of the dynamic. I changed the team, but there hasn’t been much of a difference. It’s tiresome.

Amex CEO really needs to do an internal investigation. Not only on a select few. Start from the top. Stop sweeping the sh-t under the carpet! I’m so glad to be out of the toxic waste!!

@3ozq+1w4GW5Va Working hard and earning a pay check don't go together at Amex. You either kick back and get paid, or work you butt off and don't get a fair pay.

I left after 5+ years. Worked so hard to earn my paycheck. Went above and beyond with the card members. Yet, they always found something to bring you down.
My health and well being is more important than putting up with Amex’s debilitating antics.

You should join a competitor, the longer you stay the more you stand to lose.

In my office, there were a lot of DEI hires (aka white women) who did nothing, many useless middle managers who spent their days walking their dogs when they're not in the office while the younger grunts did the work, and senior leaders who've been there for 15+ years and failed to perform were not disciplined or were simply given the "oh well" treatment. It's also a woman-first company, so forget about working hard and getting promoted if you are a straight male.

Meanwhile, I (the one that did 50+% of the work on the team of 9-10 people) was threatened with being disciplined by "HR" if I didn't come to the office once every often. That Director was hopeless and had no technical competencies whatsoever, how she and the VP made it into our team will always be a mystery. Sadly, it takes someone that's been stuck in the same job and position at Amex for 5+ years to figure out it is a waste of time and money there (literally, as spending callously is part of the credit card workplace culture). I went to the office, saw the bs, and resigned in less than 2 years.
