Thread regarding American Express Co. layoffs

Opinions on a career at AMEX?

Hi. I’ve been at a financial services company for about 25 years and was sent this job on LinkedIn. Any advice on working at AMEX or these areas in general? .

“This position will report to the leader of SOBA, with a dotted line directly to the RCCG Senior Vice President, and be responsible for supporting business conduct and governance efforts for the Client Management organization within MS - U.S. This is a brand new, high-visibility position and offers a unique opportunity to re-design and build effective business processes from the ground up, playing a pivotal role in shaping our strong risk management culture, and defining our strategy and compliance efforts for the U.S.”

If you want a meaningless career in an organisation where there is a "Cover Your A$$" culture and zero accountability from senior leadership then go ahead and join, that's the number one reason why people stick around forever.

My manager at that time openly told me that you are better off joining JP Morgan Chase, VISA/MC/Discover/CapOne than to stay in the job at Amex for longer than 2 years.

Safe to say, I resigned and never looked back. Now the company is getting hit with lawsuits one after another. And people will continue to stay as if nothing happened. Good luck cleaning up their mess. I would be declining and pursuing a pay check that is 2-3X what they're offering you now.

@nte+1tG5RkbV Just like ICS restructuring and FXIP layoffs. Essentially another RIF coming AMEX's way. Very sad to see the company go downhill.

Good luck with that. The ICS restructuring efforts at AMEX have been a disaster. And now they want to hire someone to restructure again and it hasn't been 3 years since they last did that? They pushed out all the old folks and are replacing them with fresh blood and these people still can't get the AMEX Card strategy and technology systems right.

Interesting to see AMEX hiring a lot of risk and compliance personnel, maybe gearing up for a lawsuit or something.

Sounds like a position to help with the current restructuring efforts.
