If they are going to start communicating offers to people next week that surely means they expect China's approval on the deal this week so that this isnt a complete train wreck?

Was severance changed since last acquisition?

During the CA Technologies acquisition I could have sworn the severance was two weeks of pay for every year of service maxing out at 40 weeks. Maybe 38. Did Broadcom cut severance down to 1 week of pay for every year of service?
