Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The wait is so ridiculous...

This waiting game is absolute BS! At this point, every VP or Director should already know their fate and their team's fate. If they don't, shame on VMware and Broadcom. We are just three weeks away from the acquisition closing, and it's frustrating that there have been no decisions made yet. Instead, they're leaving everyone anxiously waiting to find out whether they will be laid off or if there MIGHT be a role for them. There seems to be zero empathy for employees with families or employees in general who are trying to prepare for what's next. This process has been completely unprofessional. Stop making everyone wait and just give it to us straight, whether we get the axe or not. Okay, rant over.

LOL intentional.

Company wants its $13 billion dollar business to come to a screeching halt to avoid paying $5M in salary?

Come on man

It's intentional. They want people to leave and take jobs elsewhere to avoid pay-outs. It's typical death by 1,000 papercuts and psychological-corporate-BS.

I’m impressed at the tight lips within VMware. It’s incredible really.

Broadcom, you’ve done well.

Talking to about a dozen different people in VMware, sounds like a whole lot of people want to get laid off.

The reason I want to get laid off is because I didn’t just sit and wait and relied on my VMware eco system based experience to see my through long term but as soon as it was announced I upskilled and have a new job lined up. New job starts December 1 so timing for me is perfect.

A watched pot never boils.

Find peace with your anxiety. Everyone has to wait, not just you.

You mean, “…on the 13th”…😉

I can assure you that Directors don’t know and won’t know the staff decisions. I’m a Director. We are all in the dark

" I for one hope I get laid off so I can start my new job with a severance bagged up."

Personally, I'm a bit back and forth, I like my job and I like the people I work with, if both of them remain similar, I'd like to stay. If I'm basically starting over in a new role with new people, I think I'd prefer the layoff, that way I can pick my next group vs being thrown into a role.

what is advertised publicly and shared privately with management at vmware are two different things. there are people being told they are "safe" and there are people totally clueless as to what will happen to their role. of course, you'd like to find a job elsewhere but easier said than done.

You had over a year to prepare and let's be honest. Everyone fends for themselves so naturally if you were in a position of looking at an 8 figure severance, you'd probably clock out mentally and do only just about what is required to get said severance.

What makes you think they wouldn't know. There's a legal reason this cannot be advertised and let's be honest, it was advertised a LONG time ago and everybody is responsible for their own professional future.

Can't be helped if you just sit tight since the announcement hoping things work out well. I for one hope I get laid off so I can start my new job with a severance bagged up.
