Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Still hiring

It makes no sense considering what's coming in a few months, but it's happening. Can anybody explain why? What's the logic behind it?

The place is about to get nuked

Why do you think that? A majority of the company will not be impacted, and many will come out of this better than before. Why should they not celebrate successes?

I'm also seeing a few VMW people posting on LinkedIn about their job promotions.

Really?

The place is about to get nuked, but you got promoted a week before the bo-b went off. Lol

Hiring freeze just started Oct 1, and new folks have to join I think by either last Friday or the 13th, I forget which.

We are in a complete hiring freeze right now so you're incorrect.

Resume harvesting is a common practice. Once the AVGO HR team takes over, and all the older and more expensive VMW employees are let go, then they'll use those CVs to hire replacements where needed. This is the Private Equity model that Hock has adopted.

It makes sense, you're just missing it.

The business is still running. Why wouldn't it be? Billion-dollar companies don't stop and everyone goes home just because they're about to be acquired.

There is still a need to grow out the profitable areas and to replace attrition. This is covered and discussed already.
