Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Key Updates

20% target list for every team is prepared. Expected 0-20% cut. Does not mean 20% flat cut.
MTS 1 at high risk and other MTS positions are at risk too.
Remote employees are definitely on the list, their list is requested.
Low performers will be definitely eliminated.
R&D is also included for day 1.
Discussions at VP level, list also prepared by them. VPs are heads down for 2 weeks doing this activity. Till now no consultations are done with SDR and below.

Above is validated with multiple high level sources and not speculation. Sharing this not to create fear, but for information purposes.

Other speculations

  • AI will be used to make decisions.
  • management positions are considered for down level.
  • Flat hierarchy is preferred and hence more elimination at management level or convert them to IC.
  • IC leveling can be mapped based on AI, criteria includes salary mapping to bcom, experience level, tenure at current role etc.
  • Redundant roles to be cut, again based on AI using industry standards and the performance ratings.

Edit
Updates are engineering only, not clear about non engineering.

CIBG specific sources.

Edit about staff+

General consensus is to not disturb IC leadership so that they don't disturb product roadmap and lose key talents because of panic. They will be cut over time based on inputs. Broadcom is aware that VMware products are complex and not easy to hire senior tech from outside and hence this could be reason.

They could be part of day 1 in below cases

  • The whole team is eliminated, decision by bcom
  • Low performer
  • Remote
  • AI decision based on multiple criteria.

If you live further than 50 miles you’re fine
===========

I updated my address to my friends home address who live 70 miles from PA campus although in reality I am just 3 miles away from PA campus. Am i safe ? How are they going to verify ? I can get rent receipts from my friend if needed

Remote workers to be laid off is garbage.

I have heard many of the things the OP listed. Similar in my group (non-engineering). I am on a leadership team and my VP can only share so much but SDR/DR/etc are not part of the process. Messed up if you ask me.

They’re not firing people, they’re merely not extending offers of employment. There’s a lot of confusion of the difference of merger versus acquisition

AI will also be replacing all positions moving forward.

I’m not an AI expert but I call BS. Maybe AI could be used for salary and levelling but not culling of positions. That is done more intelligently by passing down headcount’s to managers.

Great, we have the parameters. Now someone should create an app that will give our likelihood of getting laid off / retained :-)

So they are firing people without even giving them a chance to opt to relocate to office??

AI??? Hahaha, no. I would've believed darts agains the wall before I believed AI was being used for this.

" "Which tracks with teams starting to be told this week by Mgr/Dir/SDR level as they get brought into the loop"

Are you sure? have they not said all along that they will not know, and will have no part of it, it will literally be an email to each person?"

Well, yes, it's starting to happen. The Mgr/Dir/SDR level has not known, nor has been consulted, but it appears as if the VP level is starting to informally pass down what they are able to (not violating NDA's), and that info is being disseminated as it becomes available.

Regardless of where you fall in all this, it will be an extremely difficult time.

Day 1/Transition/BC - Teams are going to drastically change, and the next year whether on transition or with BC; the pressure will be on!!! I do not think for one minute it will be a good/positive environment to work in.

People will start clambering over each other to prove their worth as it is known that even with a BC offer, you are not safe! It is only a matter of time.

Hope that everyone gets their preferred choice!!!!

Question on the remote part (if known). If you are remote as in no VMware office nearby, but an existing BC office close; does that still count as remote or do they take into consideration you are within range of an existing BC office?
