Take care of yourself during these difficult times

The next month will bring a lot of restructuring and layoffs. It is a harsh reminder that none of us are indispensable in the corporate machine. Remember that this job is not your identity or your measure of worth in this world. Best of luck to all of you. There is life outside of Medtronic.

SDPB Preserves Jobs Through Community Donations

South Dakota Public Broadcasting will retain 7 of 15 planned layoff positions. This decision follows unexpected federal funding cuts. Congress approved a rescission package in July. SDPB sought private donations and savings. Community support helped preserve these vital services.

pour one out for the homies

today's the official separation date for thousands of us since RIF waves started at the beginning of the year. pour one out. 🥂

and to everyone out there suffering at a job they hate - remind yourself that hundreds of thousands of people are actively looking for work and it is statistically, measurably harder to find a job when you don't have one. your misery is temporary. unemployment is also miserable but with added financial anxiety.

refer people when you can. be kind to applicants. and if you know someone who got laid off today, check on them.

we're gonna be fine probably 🫡

How is everyone holding up after yesterday?

Yeah, it was and remains awful. Take care of yourselves first, just like the airline safety instruction. Take a couple of days to process, and make a plan that suits you best. Sending out peace and strength. If you have time to wring out everything from your benefits do it, as cr-ppy as they are.

Why the heck does ASC still have problems almost 2 years later

Ok, what is going on? It still pulls in suspended DL licenses on random people that have verified active licenses, changes coverages randomly at binding, price randomly changes when quote is opened the next day and other glitches.

Support continues to just say "working as intended" "nothing we can do".

Who in the world creates software that cant be be overridden by an admin? For instance if a DL is obviously not suspended because it's active on the DMV website.

Here I am again... Stuck waiting on chat for 30 minutes. I'll probably be told again that "theres nothing they can do..."

I'm not Okay, you're not Okay Corral

Deep cleansing breaths, people. What kind of tools is everyone using to manage stress? I understand the need to go straight to sarcasm, but seriously asking. Focusing on supporting colleagues helps, it's always been about the people. Keep an eye out for who needs support, but might not ask for it. That can more challenging for remote workers, but do send out a message if someone goes quiet.

I feel so sad today

I am approaching a seven-year tenure on my team and I have long found solace in our shared atmosphere. Everyone is remarkably kind and approachable. Although we have recently encountered adverse shifts beyond our control, I have remained a steadfast advocate for collective resilience despite the prevailing negativity because I deeply honor the journey that defined every teammate’s professional growth.

Best space for FIS Breaking News is here

So many have been generous in sharing what is happening for them and on their teams in real time. It's gut wrenching to watch. Please take good care of yourselves. If still in the office, get contact info or create text chains for your workgroup to stay in touch. If laid off, don't sign anything until you have a chance to review it. Check your local laws regarding length of time to do so. If appropriate, have an attorney review it. Resist any pressure to sign without those options. If you are impacted, as mentioned elsewhere, it's not your fault, you did not fail. Everyone was failed, right from the top.

What “JOBS”??

Where are all the “JOBS” that Amazon promised would be available to the 16,000 they laid off this month? Where is all the “SUPPORT” they claimed they would provide us to find alternative jobs within Amazon? Where is the “…..WORLDS BEST EMPLOYER” support Amazon promised us? Why are all the jobs disappearing from the internal jobs site all the sudden?

This horrendous company, albeit they paid me great money and moved my family and I across the country, bait and switched me only to be laid off and unable to afford moving back to where I called home. So here I am, sitting in front of a laptop looking for non-existent jobs from hiring managers that fail to respond to a courtesy slack introducing myself and explaining why I am reaching out (basically that I’m about to be homeless) today. When they do respond back, why are they telling me the role has since been filled when it was JUST posted three days prior?! I am OVER qualified for positions I am applying for and STILL no response.

I have been with Amazon almost a year and a half. The most recent Forte landed me TT, as confirmed by receiving a copy of the letter of recommendation from my L8 supervisor. I have had three different L8 letter of recommendations sent to one specific hiring manager, whom responds back to them stating they will reach out, only to have zero interaction with said “hiring manager”.

I have been assured, multiple times from a reputable source, that I will be offered a role before the date ends, but how am I honestly sleep at night when I have yet to receive any communication. Do not think, for so much as a second, that I am an HV1/2 or even HV3, I have proof I am TT. If someone who is “valuable” to Amazon, why do they allow me to feel like that nasty urinal cake from the men’s room of a sleezy capital hill dive bar?

This is absolutely depressing to say the least, this company has me sitting here contemplating things nobody should ever have to contemplate. I truly feel like I am being buried alive with a plastic stir stick to breath from.

Wish I had someone to help, someone like myself as I help my team find jobs. Ironically, to which I have already landed 3 of my 7 direct reports with roles before their severance date ends. Meanwhile I will likely be unemployed come May since nobody is helping ME find a job. How’s that for “… WORLDS BEST EMPLOYER”?!
