Contractors

Are they still around?

I was a contractor on the tech side and left in January because I got a better job and because I’ve worked at a PE owned company before and I knew what was coming?

The team I was on was 90% contractors. I can’t imagine what shape they are in if contractors are gone.

Pat Gelsinger receives $150M from CHIPS Act to to build a Free-Electron Laser EUV

xLight, a U.S.-based startup developing an EUV light source based on a particle accelerator, on Tuesday signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the U.S. Department of Commerce for $150 million in proposed federal incentives under the CHIPS and Science Act. xLight came out of the blue earlier this year when it hired Pat Gelsinger, former chief executive of Intel, as executive chairman. The money, if awarded, will be used to bring xLight's free-electron laser (FEL) based light source closer to reality once it is built in Albany and its viability is proven in practice.

Tech

ITC does nothing because there is nothing for them to do. We’re asleep.. No tech skills and no value. Fire all resilience and GT support managers. Let the vendors do the work. Put money into marketing and design. Quit pretending like tech is adding value.
Tech support managers are the worst. Micro managers with low iq. Our teams give zero sh--s due to the embarrassment of working for these clowns.

The latest round of layoffs in the tech sector

The latest round of layoffs across tech firms in the Bay Area and beyond has reignited talk about a possible “jobs recession” in the tech world. Seeing so many companies cut staff in such a short period of time has shaken confidence, especially for workers who once saw tech as one of the safest and fastest-growing career paths.

Nike Tech expands India office

Global sportswear giant Nike has expanded its presence in India by leasing 126,000 sq ft of premium office space in the Olympia Building at Bagmane Tech Park, Bengaluru. This strategic move highlights Nike’s commitment to strengthening its corporate operations in one of India’s most competitive commercial real estate markets.

Bagmane Tech Park, located in C V Raman Nagar, is a leading business hub hosting multinational technology firms, consumer brands, and professional service providers. Nike’s new leased space allows the company to access top talent and modern office infrastructure, aligning with the growing demand for large, contiguous office spaces in Bengaluru.

While lease terms and financials remain undisclosed, the acquisition signals Nike’s long-term commitment to India’s growing market. Bengaluru continues to attract multinational companies seeking Grade A commercial properties, ideal for regional offices, technology teams, and operational hubs.

This transaction is comparable to prominent Bengaluru real estate projects such as Sobha Galera in Kannamangala and Prestige Evergreen in Whitefield, which have drawn attention for their prime locations and modern amenities. Nike’s lease also mirrors the trend of investing in pre-launch projects, where corporates secure high-quality office and commercial spaces ahead of market competition.

By taking this step, Nike reinforces Bengaluru’s position as a preferred destination for global expansions, emphasizing the city’s role as a hub for talent, innovation, and corporate growth. The move also strengthens the appeal of business parks like Bagmane Tech Park, which continues to attract multinational tenants seeking premium infrastructure and connectivity.

Just WOW

I was thinking about applying for a tech security position.

Until I saw the hiring manager.

I am familiar with her. There is no way that she knows anything about tech security... And, she's a director. Like, she's an 'expert' in the field.

First time I've ever been like, "Yeah, Fidelity has D . E . I . but they have enough people to fill roles with talented people."

What people are saying is true. No way is this company doing well when I see this.

A HS dropout with ChatGPT would be a better fit for director than this individual. Just wow.

New Updated Intelligence On Walmart Layoffs

We don’t expect large wholesale layoffs before EOY (Jan 31st). Q4 is going fine, holiday event went fine and previous layoffs achieved the expense reduction plan. Therefore, we think everyone can rest easy for awhile.

However, there’s a trifecta of conditions that create concerns for the May (and beyond) time frame:

Leadership is changing and focus from the CEO perspective will likely be to stop the project and dollar bleed from languishing projects and project now out of favor.

Tech leadership is in the target zone to change from service provider to business partner, and when that spotlight shines, discovery of money pit projects will surface. Many will be scrapped along with the tech staff on them.

Focus on evaluating AI efforts will continue and sone projects will be cancelled and new ones will appear. That could add to staff reductions.

Expect to see reorganization efforts to more closely align with business goals. Reorganized always create excess staff, so take that into account.

The next 6-8 weeks will prove to be consequential for those in peril of low performance and the typical calibration type meetings will displace those that are unpopular for one reason or another.

It’ll be May before actions are apparent on new leaders, new goals and new projects actual staffing.

We still think transportation, distribution centers and stores will fare fine in 2026. The risk is primarily in tech, we believe

More than 122,000 tech workers across 550 companies laid off this year

The technology sector has entered a defining era of “The Great Recalibration” in 2025. While the total volume is slightly lower than the 2024 peak, the nature of these cuts is far more strategic.
