Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I'm finally considering leaving Oracle

Tech role. Anyone test the waters in the job market yet?

I had an offer in the bag, and then the req was frozen. They didn't even tell me. I had to contact the recruiter to find out.

I applied to plenty of jobs to be eligible for unemployment. 90%+ ghosted me, not even a "we are moving forward with other candidates."

I am hearing through the grapevine that more and more employers have hiring freezes. They still post the jobs and will not tell you there is a hiring freeze.

@OP Got RIFd last September and not a single interview until now due to garbage outdated O skills/experience.

You must crack the initial coding interviews just to get to the rounds where you can showcase your high-level architecture and technical mindset. If you are a senior engineer looking for a new role, you need to get hands-on. Expect it to take anywhere from a few months to six months of dedicated practice to master these interviews. If you aren't prepared to crack these early rounds, you’ll be forced to take whatever job happens to fall into your lap.

The traditional "enterprise product" mindset is no longer the default requirement. Most new openings are looking for "0-to-1" enablers who can build quickly from scratch.

Java/Spring Boot: Knowing just Java 7 or 8 won't cut it anymore.
OJET -- none knows about it.
Go/Rust is must too in some places.
Python: Becoming the go-to language for modern microservices.

AWS/Azure: Companies are heavily indexing on knowledge of managed services.

OCI: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) isn't widely adopted or sought after in the Bay Area market.

AI: Agentic AI frameworks are in high demand; companies are actively filtering for candidates with this exposure.

@c5
I'm relieved to hear that there are still good opportunities out there.

Market stinks. Line something up and make it's confirmed rock solid before you leave. Su-k O dry for as much as you can.

@OP you have no skills to land a job in this market. If you did you'd have left already. Troll

I am trying since jan, very tough to land interviews, companies are very picky with lots of RIFed candidates in the market. I landed one interview, and got rejected despite crushing it.

The job market is tough right now. I recommend start interviewing while you have a job. It will give you practice and confidence without the added stress of being out of a job. It took me over a year to find the right job. Good luck
