I'm actually looking forward to the first decent weekend in forever, and to never touching healthcare again. Got an interview next week for something completely different at a small company. Wish me luck. And do yourselves a favor, find something else.

Good luck next week if you're hoping to stay
I'm not. I've been too chicken to quit on my own, so if they do it for me, and I get severance, even better.
Are layoffs happening next week, or not?
Doesn't really matter, I suppose, they're coming eventually. A heads-up would be nice, though. Rumors are all over the place.
Layoffs?
Anyone hear of eliminations? Heard of people being let go today Friday May 1…..
Even more cuts coming, most likely
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees Thursday that the company's planned layoffs stem from a surge in AI capital spending, and declined to rule out additional job cuts beyond those already announced.

I stopped waiting for things to get better here
Instead I'm spending my evenings learning everything I can AI-related and working on a new certification. I don't know when hiring will pick back up, but I want to have my resume ready and my skills updated when it does. That's about all I can do as we all wait to be laid off.
the problem is that Nike is trying to fix the issue while being status quo
therefore all they do is layoff here and layoff there.
Nike should be ready to take their sales down as low as $35 billions a year.
Start from the scratch. Because once Nike has their marbles together it will be matter of time because sales shot up above $50.00

BID Contract Employees Likely to Be Laid Off
With the announcement this morning that they're sending so many people to the bench at the end of the BID contract on May 18th, I'm fully expecting a layoff of several hundred people shortly thereafter. Time on the bench before getting a lack of work letter hasn't been very long in recent history.
Layoffs likely to come at end of Q2 (end of June)
Integration news letter states in the FAQs that org model to be complete at the end of Q2 which "in other cases, the changes may put some roles at risk of being eliminated".
Layoffs Trigger Heightened Nepotism and Cronyism
It's time to say the quiet part out loud. Have you ever wondered why upper leadership are so terrible at their roles, have no expertise related to their core functions, and can hardly string together a coherent sentence? It's because they were never qualified to begin with. VPs, Sr. Directors, Directors, etc., they're school mates, college roommates, they attend the same church. That incompetent Associate Director who somehow gets away with doing no work at all? Well, the VP just so happens to be his uncle Dave. Uncle Dave even fashioned the role description with his nephew in mind. The truth is that...you never had a chance.
The recruiters are aligning the resumes of their friends and families to hiring manager specifications, and influencing the hiring decisions. Think you're a perfect fit for the role? Well, so does the recruiter. So much so, that they ensure your resume isn't seen by a hiring manager. It's important for them to quell the competition, after all.
Nepotism and Cronyism aren't new, but have increased in this abysmal job market. If you're not getting interviews, you aren't to blame. If you're making it to the final rounds of interviews but have no luck, it’s because you're being used by the hiring manager to meet an interview quota...they were never genuinely interested in you.
For all you overachievers who are excellent at your roles, your leadership feels the same way—which is precisely why you're being blocked from promotion. They want you to remain right where you are.
So, don't blame yourself. You're not imagining things and you haven't done anything wrong. You are just navigating a system that was never made for you to win. The good managers who support their teams are purged while Incompetence reigns supreme. But don't give up. If VP uncle Dave is trying to squeeze his niece or nephew into that management role...let's not make it easy for him 😉.

Laid off
A group of R&D managers just got laid off, USA.
Most of the layoffs weren't controllable
Looking at who was let go, I saw some patterns and it was hard for me to see this:
- Function-specific: projects that weren't critical (anymore) or at the tail end of the delivery
- Location specific: ATC, PTC, remote, etc.
A smaller group of people in critical roles were also let go. This is just my theory and my opinion: They either had a salary hard to justify for what they do, or were hard to work with (or both)
Waves of Layoffs
They have been laying off various engineers in software development and electrical/biomedical design teams for a couple weeks now. Not sure when it will be over.
They are also planning on laying off members of various avionics teams.

Two bad years for two big firms
Portland experienced a significant job decline in 2025. This loss is largely attributed to struggles at Intel and Nike. Intel announced 4,500 layoffs, and Nike announced 740 layoffs. These job cuts stem from internal company decisions and market challenges. The article argues these issues, not local business climate, caused the decline.

Portland Public Schools faces a $56.3 million budget deficit for the upcoming year. Superintendent Dr. Kimberlee Armstrong proposes 336 full-time employee layoffs, including 180 educators. How are they gonna fit everyone into the office with full rto?
Do they even have enough space for everybody at some of these locations? I won't be surprised if they perform a big layoff before or slightly after the rto date.

Reorg
My original post was deleted so I’ll filter this one. What counts as a reorg for a layoff?
Half of my group is moving to another manager, but not a BU. The head of my department is losing half of their downloaded. Am I at risk?
Expect more COP layoffs in 2026 and 2027

Layoff running totals based on Slack
Tracking participants count #general Slack channel in Oracle One workspace, as the fastest available proxy indication of ongoing layoffs.
- apr01-apr30: 2286 reductions, and 1583 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- mar01-mar31: 12446 reductions, and 844 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- feb01-feb28: 943 reductions, and 1143 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- jan01-jan31: 1604 reductions, and 1834 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- dec01-dec31: 1031 reductions, and 844 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- nov01-nov30: 1614 reductions, and 1327 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- oct01-oct31: 2504 reductions, 1762 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- sep02-sep30: 6275 reductions, 861 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
- aug14-sep01: 733 reductions (based on Slack very few data points)
- aug01-aug14: ?2900 reductions in IDC (based on media reports)
Regions outside IDC and NA usually have a significant delay when laid off people are disconnected from Slack (e.g. 1 month in Pacific regions, perhaps longer in some EU countries), so this is a floor estimate with additions reflected immediately, but reductions lagging behind on average.
What is called "layoff estimates" are partially part of normal attrition, limitations are covered in details in comments.
I will post daily in comments on the count change and running current month total while this post is still on the first page.
