JDI Day = Day Off?

Are people actually going to JDI day or do some people use it as a day off? I really don’t have that much interest in going, and I think my team is kinda doing whatever. Wondering if it’s abnormal to not partake or how people approach JDI day especially considering where the company is at. I’d rather have saved the money of JDI day and split the cost up as a bonus between everyone lol

HMSers

Does anyone know why all of a sudden there is a huge divide between Gainwell and HMS? The messaging at first it was we are one company. These past couple of months it’s been shown we are NOT one and was verbally told to separate from them. You see it in their actions. W are treated like the red headed stepchild! We bring in so much money but we’re treated like we don’t even exist. They never wanted us and that’s okay. Does anyone know if we will be sold soon or the sudden direct change of heart? Is it time to move on?

Reflections from someone who was LR'd

First, I wasn't surprised by my LR nor am I bitter. We all know Cisco is a cost-manager first and foremost, and there is still so much that can (and will) be cut from Cisco (and every other large tech co).

I actually applied to some internal roles, mostly for yucks. One HR screen for an SRE position but it was clear they really just wanted someone cheap and low-skill. Hard to get excited about anything internal when you know how Cisco is run.

Otherwise it is quite brutal out there. The traditional job search (resume, apply, interview, offer) is completely over-saturated and time-consuming. I don't think Cisco on my resume is seen as good or bad...it is a name people have heard of but doesn't impress like a FAANG. So you can't expect to get a pass based on your experience.

Interview prep and tech screens are much more absurdly difficult than anytime I can remember. I feel like I am cramming for the SAT. Problem is, every day I spend prepping is another day lost to other things I could be doing. The opportunity cost feels high.

On top of all of this, I have noticed an undeniable trend - declining published salaries ranges.

Companies know this is a buyer's market and are flipping the table on candidates.

I feel really bad for candidates who need $$$ to pay bills ASAP. I wonder how many will just drop out of tech.

As for me, I am going to be an entrepreneur out of necessity. I feel like I am in a su---r's game and I am just wasting week after week chasing what shouldn't be an impossible dream - a moderately decent job in my field - but it is what it is.

Stock going into the 30s - FT drop

I think once everyone learns that FT, who is a large client, is dropping the contract and going with a different company the stock will fall even lower. Well into the 30s. How can you have confidence in the company if they constantly get dropped by clients?

No communication since notice

Since I was notified that my last day is June 5th, I have not been contacted by anyone. My immediate supervisor has not been contacted by anyone. He has never been told by anyone that I have been laid off. I find this to be absolutely ludicrous and completely ridiculous, but I have not heard from anyone regarding any closing process. Is there any kind of interview? Exit interview or anything? Is this normal for me not to have heard anything?

We would have benefited from staying in our lane

T is like an enormous dinosaur lumbering through the telecom space. Had we cared for the aging dinosaur by making sure our fiber footprint and customer service were robust, we could have survived the times we are in now.

Instead we tried to weave ourselves into sectors we had no business in and come up with gimmicky BS to seem cutting edge.

Putting funding and focus into those pursuits made us quietly fall behind. Now we’re like a cringey guy in the throes of a midlife crisis trying to date 20 year olds and who have zero interest while neglecting his family that is rapidly falling apart.

Nothing is working and the company looks stupid as he-l flopping around trying to ensure everyone that things are going great and AT&T is cool.

Thank you being the best part of Verizon

If it’s any consolation, “thank you for being the best part of Verizon” was carelessly worn out like “love you’s” to your ex-wife. They got us all with it. They made corporate love to us (because it wasn’t consensual) while they took our innocence, money, and more importantly time. And you sold your dignity for a small check and what amounted to a pizza party. Hey we all get used from time to time. But this time, you got a skill out of it not just he---s.

Geoff got all choked up…

Thought he was gonna cry saying goodbye to his buddy Brett on the earnings call. Clearly he didn’t want to fire him and EM forced his hand. Neuroscience performance was awful (again)… when was the last time they hit plan??? Getting rid of Brett was long overdue— Geoff you are next

The grass isn't always greener

I have been gone from Boeing for less than 5 years. Not long in the grand design, but long enough to compare.

The corporate world su-ks. The type of people who make it to management in all companies su-k.

All things being the same, I'd rather work for a company that su-ks with great benefits than a company that su-ks with less than stellar benefits.

I'm going to be ripped for this, but yes, I'd go back to Boeing. Its sh---y but the 10% match in the 401k will get me out earlier and the cost of insurance is the lowest I have ever found.

I'm not going to be happy at work anywhere, so I might as well have my pockets full.

Renewed focus on remote employees?

Is there any truth behind a mid year focus on impacting remote employees? I heard there is but can’t comprehend how we can continue to lose people while the scope of work increases. ODW isn’t helping with workload (at least yet) and using AI only provides a temporary security blanket to speed some things up (while quality goes down).
