Seems like layoffs are pretty minimimal this quarter

Usually - at least the last 6 years - layoffs have been rampant starting end of 4th and in 1st quarter. Haven't heard much about it lately, and not even on here. I'm wondering if it's because Maverick is so far behind schedule and/or they are now under the 100k employee mark?

AI Automation and Workforce Impact

AI tools like those from Anthropic are increasing automation and reducing the need for manpower in many roles. While operational work may require fewer people, human oversight and management decisions are still essential. The focus should be on adapting skills, not just replacing jobs.

Employment Separation Summary

On July 31, 2025, I was contacted by my manager’s manager via Microsoft Teams for a brief meeting late in the day. During that conversation, I was informed of a workforce reduction and the company followed its standard separation process. Immediately after the call, I returned my company laptop to a colleague and my system access was concluded.

On August 7, 2025, a representative from Human Resources formally reached out to review the details of the separation, benefits, and transition process.

My official last working day with the company was November 19, 2025.

On December 2, 2025, I received my final paycheck, which included payment for all accrued and unused vacation time.

Finally, on February 7, 2026, the company issued my severance payment in accordance with the separation agreement.

Visa sponsorships

I just don’t see why I should be supportive of a foreigner taking the place of an American candidate that is equally or more qualified, speaks the language, and won’t result in brain drain after a few years. These entitled early career applicants are students with no experience other than symbolic “internships” where they were told they are the center of the universe. We pay them a premium but they are worse than AI. At least AI can follow directions.

Affected roles for the upcoming layoffs from Upcoming layoffs

Looking at this article: https://www.indmoney.com/blog/us-stocks/oracle-layoffs-30000-employees-to-lose-jobs, here are the roles most affected by the upcoming layoffs:

Who Will be Impacted By Oracle Layoffs?

The layoffs are expected to primarily impact legacy software roles and overlapping support functions, while AI, cloud, and core enterprise teams are likely to remain relatively insulated.
Roles likely to face pressure

Legacy on-prem software support
Overlapping management layers
Non-core operations tied to older product lines

Roles likely to be protected or expanded

Cloud infrastructure engineering
AI and machine-learning teams
Enterprise sales and client delivery
Security, compliance, and data governance

This points to a reshaping of the workforce rather than a retreat from growth.

Layoff running totals based on Slack

Tracking participants count #general Slack channel in Oracle One workspace, as the fastest available proxy indication of ongoing layoffs.

  • jan01-jan31: 1604 layoffs, and 1834 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • dec01-dec31: 1031 layoffs, and 844 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • nov01-nov30: 1614 layoffs, and 1327 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • oct01-oct31: 2504 layoffs, 1762 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • sep02-sep30: 6275 layoffs, 861 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • aug14-sep01: 733 layoffs (based on Slack very few data points)
  • aug01-aug14: ?2900 layoffs in IDC (based on media reports)

Regions outside IDC and NA usually have a significant delay when laid off people are disconnected from Slack (e.g. 1 month in Pacific regions, perhaps longer in some EU countries), so this is a floor estimate with additions reflected immediately, but reductions lagging behind on average.

I will post daily in comments on the count change and running current month total while this post is still on the first page.
