Steel tariffs impact St. Louis jobs

U.S. steel tariffs enacted in 2018 under Section 232 are putting mounting pressure on manufacturers in St. Louis, with growing consequences for local jobs and the community. More than 1,000 pieces of equipment from a major north St. Louis manufacturing site are being sent to auction, a move that signals reduced operations and deepening uncertainty for workers in the area.

While the tariffs were intended to protect American steel producers, higher steel prices have squeezed local fabricators, forcing companies to cut back, sell assets, and rethink their presence in the region. Community leaders warn that continued cost pressures could further erode manufacturing employment in one of St. Louis’s key industrial corridors.

The best thing Microsoft could do that would favor the public’s opinion

Microsoft should declare a 100% RIF at their Redmond Washington campus. Have all those employees move to St Louis Missouri where Microsoft can buy old buildings cheap for them to work in.

Microsoft should then donate the land to NASCAR where they can bulldoze down all the buildings to make room to build a Daytona 500 size race track with a full grandstand and a runway on the infield for Lear and Gulfstream jets to take off and land.
If Microsoft accomplished this the public would start having a favorable opinion of Microsoft then they do now.

St louis Future

Yesterday was the CRG Governance & Supervision town hall. The future of the St louis location was discussed. For once a Sr leader was honest with the submitted questions:
1- Was asked if WFA is going to stay in STL. Leader paused & answered the questions very carefully. "STL is no longer a growth area". Said flat out they expect the firm to reduce to 1 building (and obvious reduce headcount). Said "that's been the plan all along since AG Edwards". He doesn't expect the St louis campus to close any time soon but it will it's pretty clear STL is no longer a core focus for the firm and will be reducing its footprint.
2- 4 day in-office work week across the firm? Answered would not be shocked but was not his announcement to make. Would come from 1 level up. (ie: its happening but not disclosing when). Explained some groups are already 4 & 5 days in the office.
3- AI will not take your jobs but ironically started the town hall acknowledging there were significant layoffs the day (Tueday) before and some people listed on the handout were already terminated.
It was refreshing to hear a leader be honest even though it was not the most positive answers. It is very clear from the responses that St Louis is not a priority for WFA anymore. How long it will last is unknown. Needless to say the auditorium in STL had a lot of shocked faces but not unexpected.

Layoffs are here.

Charlotte and stlouis have had massive layoffs today. at least 20 that i know off. managers, supervisors, directors, associates and analysts. i was laid off and i was an engineer.

for those still employed prepare and try to find something. hopefully the nest egg holds you all through. good luck.

ELT Members Should Live In StL

I would just like to say that the firm has taken a noticeable turn when PP became the MP. What I don't like is that now we have members of the Executive Leadership Team that don't even have to live in StL. That used to be the norm - you're a Partner, you have to move to StL. How can leaders that don't live in StL immerse themselves in the EJ culture? They can't.

We now have ELT members that live in NYC. I'm sorry, but there is nothing in EJ's culture that aligns with NYC's culture. This is only one part of the disconnect - and it's why we have associates commenting here and at the firm their suspicions about David Chuback. He is NOT EJ culture, and PP is fooling herself if she thinks he could be a trusted confidant.

I just hope she doesn't ruin the firm before she retires in 2030.
