I joined this industry a decade ago bright-eyed and excited to write code and implement solutions. Now everything is just AI. AI this, AI that. It's utterly soulless. I'm seriously considering going back to college and switching to a different field or something.

I can't get interviews for roles that match my experience, so I've been applying for entry level jobs just to get some money coming in, since severance is melting away. Each one of them said I'm overqualified and would leave too fast. So what am I supposed to do?

Normally people 'stick' w/ company max seven years. It is rare to see the majority of them with ONE company for more than 30+ years! It always makes me wonder how 'relevant' they are compared to outside work force. First time I have seen/witness a company with many veterans. I am grateful for the option, but I am wondering how much it'll be an issue for my resume in the future to leave a job after such a short time.

My manager found out I've been job hunting and that I took some time to go to a job interview (side note, I was an id--t - do not tell your coworkers anything, they'll use it to their advantage in a second). How sc--wed am I? If the interview went well I wouldn't have cared, but it didn't, so as of now, I have no backup.

Why is it that I always get some job that I didn’t ask for and that I don’t want? Nooone ever explains to me why the job is a good next role. Has been happening for 20 years now.

Survivors, how many of you are interviewing and applying somewhere else to take advantage of the higher commodity price. My guess is 50% or more of the company is at this point.

A lot of other companies are hiring and I don’t believe the “transformation is complete” narrative.

I've been applying for months through the big job boards and getting almost nothing back. No calls, no interviews, nothing. For those of you who've been laid off and managed to find something, which platforms actually worked for you? I need to change my approach.

I've been casually looking at job boards and I'm mildly put shocked by what I'm seeing. One posting today wanted a single person to run their social media, manage their email marketing, analyze campaign data, handle customer support tickets, train new hires, and manage a small team. That's at least three different jobs. Plus they wanted five years of experience in each area. Plus a degree. Plus full time in office. The salary range was $65k to $75k. Are companies actually finding people willing to do all of this, or are they just posting fantasy descriptions and wondering why they can't fill them? Anyone else noticing this inflation of expectations?

I was in a rut at Ford. Not unhappy enough to leave, not happy enough to stay. I was basically stuck. Then I hit a wall and realized I couldn't do it anymore. The day I walked out, I felt lighter than I had in years. My new role has its own problems, but I don't dread Monday mornings anymore. It comes down to whether you put life before work or the other way around.

I finally started a new role last month. It took me six months of applying and interviewing to get here. The market is brutal right now. Just wanted to say not to give up if you're looking to leave, as tempting and as discouraging as it may seem at times.

I just got laid off this morning. They told me there were 300 other people who got laid off. And that my job and all of theirs were going offshore.
