Topics regarding layoffs at Marathon Petroleum

It's not the people, it's the location.

This Friday is the last day for a fellow engineer in my department. He is the 4th engineer in less than a year to leave the company after transferring to California from Findlay. He told me that he had to stay with the company 1 year after... — read more

Most people are just stuck here

The reason most people are still here is not because they want to stay here, but because for some reason they are stuck here in this awful atmosphere. Isn't this company more than lucky because of that, otherwise they would be one of the most... — read more

Is our pay really that substandard?

The constant talk about how our pay is substandard compared to other similar companies got me thinking about that. I have a couple of friend that work in similar roles at other oil companies, and, judging from what they say, the pay and benefits are... — read more

Marathon seems to be the one getting laid off now

Regular stream of people leaving but not being replaced. Number of open jobs keeps creeping up and not being filled. A lot of of people out west are leaving since marathon will not stop with their good ole boy antics and nepotism. Seems like findlay... — read more

Relocation to Corporate Office

Does anyone want to share their experience of enrolling their children in the school system where corporate office is located? I’ve heard that the children that have grown up in the school system may receive some preferential treatment when it comes... — read more

Replacements

The people that the MOC now employs I would not even call real replacements, most of them anyway. How can someone who doesn't know what he is doing be a replacement for a person who was a role model employee? How long will it take for the... — read more

Open job count

Open job count the highest I've seen at ~240. When is Corporate going to see they have a problem, and that it's them?

Negative comments and layoffs... really?

I was laid off from MPC at the end of 2019, and have been unemployed ever since. It sickens me to read all of the negative comments about MPC from those of you who are still there... at least you're sill working! Although it appears that I'm in the... — read more

Regretted giving two weeks notice

I'm counting the days to leave this place behind. What I couldn't even imagine was that after I gave notice, I would be overwhelmed with ridiculous amount of work. It's like they want me to do work for the next two months in 14 days. Has this... — read more

Exodus Part 2

People have their bonus now exodus part 2 starts. It slowed down for a bit the past month or two but at least 3 people quit today at GBR. More to come.

Anyone seen Gary?

Just curious if any of the Findlay folks have ever run into Gary post-retirement or heard anything from the guy? Would be interesting to know his thoughts on the poor purchases of MW and Andeavor, or the performance of MH.

More WFH days?

Is there any word about MPC adding more WFH days for office employees in the near future?

Ray Retiring

SEC filing shows Ray is retiring effective in September. Should be interesting to see who fills that. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hennigan bring in someone external who wants to cut cost further and care even less about safety.

New announcement

Just posted, Marathon not paying a bonus or lump sum to employees at their 2 refinery’s that are for sale.

One foot out the door

How many fewer employees will the Marathon have after the bonus is paid out?

MPC getting bashed for layoffs and other items

"...the corporation’s strategy to increase the exploitation of the working class to pay off this debt through mass layoffs." OUCH!!! https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2022/02/22/mara-f22.html

MPC is a big joke

Nobody wants to work here anymore. We can't get anybody with any knowledge or experience to join. We've been waiting to backfill three positions on our team for SIX MONTHS! That's six months of us having to cover the extra work. If they think this... — read more

Andeavor people about to see their bonuses drop

Came across a draft of how to explain/handle questions about lower bonuses for people from Andeavor. The advice stinks since it basically states that you should have known this was coming because it was part of the MPC purchase agreement and they... — read more

MPC destroys whatever it touches

I'm to the point I don't even care who buys us anymore. Working for Marathon has been miserable. They can't even sell a refinery without screwing it up and keeping us hanging for months not knowing what our future holds. Its sad cause Tesoro/Andeavor... — read more

Bonus Payout

Does anyone know when bonuses will be paid this year? Last year was early, wondering if this year will be the same.

What the word on the latest abrupt executive departure? Hardly made it a year. My guess is he saw what a disaster this company is.

Seems to always be an opening posted for internal audit. Are people quitting the company or rotating to another department, or gettting that elusive promotion?

Employee Retention - 9/80s, more promotions?

So to finally stop the bleeding of people, MPC goes to 9/80s next month….hearing that there’ll be two promotion cycles a year starting next year, what else have you all heard is happening in order to keep people?

Not everyone can be satisfied

Since I can’t believe that it’s just their incompetency to blame, I’d rather think that leadership doesn’t really want this to be a great company for employees. Basically, they aren't even trying to make everyone happy because it's difficult for them... — read more

Among all the things that I don't like here, the worst is that this company doesn't care about the safety of its employees at all. I can say that I have never worked in a company that cares less about the safety of workers. Terribly. How long... — read more
