Thread regarding Marathon Petroleum layoffs

Negative comments and layoffs... really?

I was laid off from MPC at the end of 2019, and have been unemployed ever since. It sickens me to read all of the negative comments about MPC from those of you who are still there... at least you're sill working! Although it appears that I'm in the minority in that I actually enjoyed my time there, most of you still there ought to be thankful that you still have a job there to enjoy--or not. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who is struggling since being let go (at least I hope I'm not the only one), but it's especially hard since I WANT to work.

I'd be thrilled if they called me back! Think about what you have and show some gratitude for it... it's better than nothing and I, for one, would gladly trade places with any of you still working there (and I suspect that I'm not the only one)!

If you are Ops, eng, tech service or mtce at the refineries, you should have no problem getting another job. If you are not one of those you are considered non-core, second class, irrelevant. I was a 30 + yr MPC legacy eng (classic company soldier). At the end I was a maxed out Gr 13 mtce sup. when I was laid off in Oct '20. 78 weeks sev pay + ret health care + $4.5 mil in 401k and pension. LMFAO on my way out the door. I was going to retire in a 6 months anyways. Would have been cheaper for them to keep me. Never let anybody know your plans or they will use it against you. About us all being friends and family, just wait until there is an incident. People will be drawing battle lines around you so fast your head will spin. I've been asked a few times to come back to the refineries and the renewable job at Martinez. No thanks. Also, Findlay is embarrassing. Need any tips on how to play the system, let me know. Good luck.

It’s funny. It took getting laid off or reading about a person laid off to realize marathon does not give 2 sh--s. We are a number that’s it. We are not a family, we are not friends…we are work friends. Wake up! It’s a paycheck. Period. You come to work, do the minimum, then go home. The extra cr-p gets you nowhere.

The MPC culture is alive in this thread, kicking someone who’s down!

Only company culture I’ve seen that takes pleasure in treating people poorly in a moment of weakness

You might be the only one. The people I know who got laid off got a job within 2 months and enjoyed double dipping severance and the new job. Most enjoy their new job more. Some are already on job 2 since leaving if the first one wasn't ideal.

Yeah, OP... kissing up to the company on this site won't get your job back. Must have sit back and let your skills get stale. Generally, in this job climate, landing a new gig is a 2-10 week process, tops. Assuming you had any relevant, marketable skills, of course. If you do, then you need to get a professional service or a successful friend to help you with your resume, perhaps.

This guy must be late fifties or early sixties and did not plan his retirement well enough to be able to hang it up after they paid 63 weeks pay severance.

Sad.

Laid off in 2019 and no job yet? Curious were you field or office?
