Thread regarding Marathon Petroleum layoffs

More WFH days?

Is there any word about MPC adding more WFH days for office employees in the near future?

That’s the point. Corporate should be adding value but instead we have clowns because that is all mpc can attract. The top tier folks go to other companies for more flexibility and better culture.

Kinda hard for me to believe corporate is adding value when we recently had a group of 15+ people show up at our site for a week. This group went out for steaks and drinks EVERY night, stayed at a 4 star hotel. Showed up at around 10 every day to lecture us on cost management, and then left by 4 to get ready for drinks/dinner. Next day they come in and talk about what a great meal/night they had.

"I guarantee all this complaining is from the ANDV side"

You're damn right. Because we've seen how much better life can be outside of Marathon. Legacy MPC employees must just be used to the soul crushing bureaucracy that is MPC corporate.

All of you saying we need to be back in the office, or "we would be more efficient without most of corporate"-

IT is hemorrhaging talent and can't hardly hire anyone new. Think offshore will save you? Good luck. Our presidents came from the companies they want to outsource to (conflict of interest, anyone?) and are pushing pie-in-the-sky initiatives (moving to the cloud) with fewer and fewer people to actually do the work.

Think things are ok? Wait until all of your devs have quit and there's no one to keep the lights on anymore. The time is quickly approaching.

Can't speak to the majority of corporate employees, but the world of IT at least has changed and the idea of attracting talent to FINDLAY for IT work is a joke. You have to offer WFH, or outsource and enjoy the "benefits" of that.

This is an operations business, the money is made at the sites and the field. Most of Corporate is pushing paper around and not generating value. Most of corporate could be fired and we’d instantly be more efficient. All you corporate people have the nerve to complain about having to come into the office? If any of you spent one day in the field you’d go home crying from having to do actual work.

Please, all of you WFM fans need to resign today in order to make the office atmosphere a better place for those that want to be there - you should have no issue getting a WFH position with a different company if you are as smart, talented, and superior as you think you are. The really superior ones can even start their own company - then you can make the rules. What a basket full of crybabies.

It's only the shyte companies or weak supervisors that need their people to work exclusively in an office. There are plenty of companies, even departments within MPC, that allow for remote work at the employees discretion. The boomer mentality is really outdated and foolish when it comes to remote work, get out of the workforce and start collecting your undeserved social security checks already!!! Good luck attracting anything but the bottom of the barrel or sheep to work in an office like 1950's drones.

I'm sorry you were forced to stay home. That sounds awful. Hope you recover, thoughts and prayers.

i absolutely loath the id--ts who here who dont understand the differences in work and how we were forced to complete our duties from home for 2 years. we did what we were supposed to, and it became kind of nice to not have to worry about certain things. also, it was easier to fill out much needed positions after the layoffs with workers from out of town. now we can't fill those roles because the main office is in the middle of nowhere and it's an hour and a half drive for most of the large talent pools. but yeah, it's because everyone is lazy and doesn't want to go back in.

Doubt it. The only reason the one day at home happened was due to the mass exodus of talent. All while our competitors have 9/80’s, very flexible WFH policies etc

To the guy posting "You chose to work at a site/ field location, so expected to have to physically be there", literally every job in this company required you to be on site until two years ago. Gary Heminger was always against WFH, don't act like you have worked an entire career at MPC with this benefit and people at refineries just made poor choices.

You chose to work at a site/ field location, so expected to have to physically be there. Sites are always complaining. If you don’t like it, transfer to a desk job, or leave.

Tired of hearing about office staff wanting more WFH when others worked the whole time through COVID. Was a year or two at home not enough?

90% of my time in the office is spent socializing (coffee, lunch, chatting). I’d bet this is the same for most others in the company. I don’t mind coming in to the office, as it’s almost like being at a bar (without the beers though).

I've heard that HR was going to start cracking down on individuals not coming in four days a week.
